Am new to the game and thinking of collecting toward a Guard based Brit force. Used the Hell's Highway Guards Rifle list and came up with this.

Could someone let me know if it would be viable? I aimed to create it in order to be an all rounder using both elements of the new upcoming starter boxed set and add-ons, though with only a slight knowledge of how the game plays could have made a mashup of crap....

HI.
I am not an expert on FoW.(Only played a few games.)But for new players it may be easier to start with an Amoured Company.(I found it easier and quicker to paint too!)
This is using the allied models out of Open fire starter set as a base.

Guards Armoured Company from Hells Highway.
HQ. 2 Sherman.
Warrior Joe Vandeluer+forward RAF controller.

3 Combat teams..
HQ Sherman , Sherman ,Sherman firefly.

Allied
US Parachute Rifle platoon

Recon
3 universal carriers .

Light AA platoon.
cmd+ jeep 3 SP bofors AA.

Air support
Typhoon Priority.

Just a very basic outline.(Tweek it and add upgrades as you like.)

Recon is vital for armoured advance. In fact I like to use at least one recon platoon in all forces.

IF you want to do Gaurds Infantry.
I would drop US paras, and add more infantry support.
EG HMG platoon, mortar platoons, and anti tank gun platoons..
IF you want to take AA, make it SP.As it extra mobility makes it great for anti infantry too.(And less fiddely to move around...)
My opinion of artillery is use alot or dont bother.
Eg
8 guns + AA platoon and no Typhoons.

Or use Mortar platoons (smoke&infanty pinning .) and Typhoons.(Anti tank)

This is based on my limited experiance ,more experiance players may have more advanced/ detailed comments.

If you can take it slow I would. They will be updating hells highway in January!

But I would start with guards armoured as they will be in open fire and are very forgiving!

Start with Hq
3 squads of shermans (each with 2 firefly)
Add a guards carrier patrol
Maybe joe vandelaur and some typhoons.
Oh mortars for smoke maybe, but don't forget your shermans can smoke too!

Your original list is perfectly fine. The US airborne platoon is a bit out of place though as they are an allied platoon and understrength. I realise that you want to use as much of the box as possible but thats the first thing that I would replace (with more Guards infantry).

Airpower is the next thing that I would thing about replacing, its not all that good on the tabletop unless your opponents love artillery. The points tied up in the Typhoons (and to a lesser extent the Bofors) could be better spent else where (recce and mortars). Some people think very highly of airpower though so try it out and see what you think; I know that my Schwerpunkt Stukas rarely kill anything

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.
