hi i remember reading in the rulebook not sure when but you could get free players but thier stats were halved is that still the case cos i have been hunting about the living rulebook and couldnt see it
maybe it was in one of the little suplements

IIRC you only get free players when your team cannot field the minimum number of players to start a game (11?) through injuries and such. In that instance you get your most basic players ie. linesman, halflings, gobbo's etc but they can only use a team reroll on 4+. Cant confirm exactly if those are the rules but they are certainly the rules that BB ledgendary edition computer game follows. They are lost at the end of the match or you have the opportunity to hire them for their normal price should they get lots of exp in the game you played and become worth keeping.

yeah, if you can't field enough players you get Journey men who have the same profile as the teams basic lineman and have the Loner trait, who can be bought afterwards for their normal price +30K IIRC

Apart from that I've never heard of being able to buy players at half cost
