I know there are all ready some threads like this but i feel this is a different spin ... would these effect the same army?

In games over 2000pts you can take a second FOC ... the question is do any army wide rules effect the second detachment? For example if i take a Master of the forge does that give me access to 12 dreadnoughts? (MoF lets you take dreads as both Elites and heavy support choices) or would i have to take a MoF for each detachment?

What if i also took Pedro Kantor as my other HQ could i run 6 Dreadnoughts (HS) and 6 scoring Stern-guard units?

(please note I'm being over the top for the example) edit (its fair to say i think this is all correct ... but it wouldn't be the first time i missed a single line rule)

edit ok has been asked this exact way dam search failed me.

It is debatable. The one thing agreed upon, is that the FOC change does not affect allies.

that being said, personally, I say FOC changes only apply to the given detachment.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Where's the different spin you mentioned?
This is the exact same question as this thread just a few posts down (and many others beside).

IMO the characters that have an impact on the FOC would only have that applied to the FOC they are a part of. So no 12 dread list unless you take a MotF in each FOC. I'm not sure about Kantor though.... I'd need to check the wording of his rules

Most army wide rules specify (either in the codex or the FAQ) that they only affect models from that codex. That being said, things like the Emperor's champion vows and the troop requirements for tau are applicable to both detachments. So both vows from the emperors champions would affect both detachments and the Tau requiring 1 unit of firewarriors would be sufficiently met for both detachments regardless to which one took the firewarriors. It does not matter that you're fielding two primary detachments they are still considered "your army".

That said, obviously army-wide rules from other codices will not affect different armies. Unless the rule itself states "friendly models" instead specifying the army name or codex name (either in the codex or FAQ's), and of course this only works for battle brothers.

So if I take Logan, would I be able to take WG in two FOC's?

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

technically you can
(reading A) you take them as troop in the second detachment (they are in his army)
(reading B) they would be elites in the in the second detachment (detachments work as separate armies for rule purposes)
Still throws up another interesting question. Could you place WG from the first Primary detachment in units in the secondary primary detachment?
