If I take a named character from the new CSM codex who already has a Warlord trait (eg Kharn), does he have to be my Warlord or can I take a Chaos Lord as well as the named character and make him my Warlord? This would mean I have two characters with Warlord traits.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

He does not have to be your warlord, unless he has the Highest LD value.

Only one of them would be the warlord, so you could only benefit from one of the two traits.

Abaddon has to be your Warlord(per his rules), otherwise you can take a normal Lord and if his Leadership is tied for highest, can be the Warlord.

Note, however, even if a model has a Warlod trait the army does not benefit from it unless that model is your warlord.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Does he have his warlord trait if he is not the WL?

edit : I don't find any specification of this in the codex or the BRB

The Warlord is definitely the only person who benefits from Warlord traits (unless they are the army wide things, all the other specify they effect the warlord though), so a model who is not your Warlord will never have a trait.

They really did handle this pretty poorly by never giving an explanation for exactly what the effect of having a pre-defined Warlord Trait is though, because in the rulebook it says "[Your Warlord] will also have picked up one or more specialised abilities, which we refer to as 'traits'", so from the get go it sets up the idea that some Warlords can have more than 1 trait, and nothing about the way the Special Characters are given their traits suggests you don't still get to roll.

I personally don't think it should be played that way, but I can see a case for saying Kharn gets to roll for a trait as well as automatically recieve Hatred Incarnate if he is your Warlord. (further I could see support for the idea that, even if he is not your warlord, he would give your warlord Hatred Incarnate).

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Clear RAW from Kharn Warlord trait: "The Warlord and his unit have the Hatred
special rule."

IF Kharn isn't your warlord, he doesn't benefit from it. Your Warlord (+unit) will get hatred though. Having Kharn on your side clearly bad thing for your warlords temper!

(And who is afraid of dreadsock in this day and age. Plastic and Finecast don't scare me )
