Subject: Love my skaven but the urge to buy a new army...

To get myself a new army is creeping in.
You see ive only collected, never finished an army and never really played for real but now my friend and I are going to start going to our local GW and playing for real and this has made me want to start from scratch for real collecting. I like my skaven battleforce but theres just so many to paint and i still have to buy more models to have an effective army and both these usually result in my giving up on an army. I dont want to be holding my friend back as i spend weeks painting hordes of same skaven.
My question is should i start for real from scratch, buy a box-model-paint and move onto another instead of buying in bulk and never finish. Part of me loves the skaven look, the other hates painting horde armies.
Ive been looking at the tomb kings recently as they were the first army box i ever bought when i was a kid.
What do i do???

There is a pretty fast and great looking way if painting using mostly washes that look great on skaven see big squigs post here: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?293293-Speed-painting-skaven
After a battle force you could get the skaven army from IoB for about $45 on eBay it would give you enough clan rats/slaves to get you possibly to 2k points. Get some fun stuff too warp lightning cannons, hell pits, doom wheels, maybe a 2nd box of monks for a plague furnace and/or a screaming bell.
As for Tk they are great fun and easy to paint to tabletop standard pretty much white primer, wash then drybrush however you will need to paint a good amount of figures at least 20 preferably 40 archers after that you could get away with monsters, horsemen, chariots, catapults, necro knights and a casket.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

The problem with Skaven armies is that either you have to really love painting skaven clanrats/slaves or be willing to adopt a quick and easy approach (base coat and brown wash).
Painting fatigue sets in with any army to be honest, so personally, I would have a go at sticking with the skaven. See how many clanrats you can get done in a week using a basic method. You will be more drawn to them when you see the chittering hordes start to build up.

I'm not a Skaven player, but I'm fairly sure you don't have to have an army of hordes. Yes, the main bulk should be made of clanrats and slaves, but you can have doomwheels/hellpit abomanations etc as a good part of your force.
Other than that, I would recommend sticking with the skaven, even if you have to paint the skaven very basically at first. You could even add more details later if you feel like it at some point.

Stick with skaven, they are a fun army and as long as you aren't pulling out twin hell pits or warp lightening cannons it's fun for both ends of the table, 1 of each is fine no one should hate on you for that. As for the mass clan rats and slaves they are effective so use that wash link I posted up top or army painter or whatever you go to do, paint them to tabletop standard then put some extra effort into the storm vermin/plague monks and the rest of the toys.

I've always considered the Skaven a dip method army. You can knock out a whole army in a weekend.
