Hey all, I just played in a local tournament today and one of the missions we played was big guns never tire. I used a storm raven, but was told it couldn't score. Is this correct? For those of you who don't know a BA storm raven is a heavy support choice that can go into hover mode. In hover mode I think it should score and see no where in the rules that says a flyer in hover mode can't score. My opponent said since the hull was to far from the objective it couldn't count. What's your take?

Yes you measure to the hull so usually a flier is unable to get objectives. However if the objective is on the second floor or higher your stormraven would be able to claim it.

All right, It just doesn't make since to me since in hover mode they are treated as fast skimmers. In my mind this puts them at the same height as a land speeder. I'll just have to remember if I roll big guns to place objectives high.

They are treated as fast skimmers this does not make them a fast skimmer they still have to be on the flying base (they're still high in the air but just moving slower)

Re-read The Big Guns Never Tire mission,P. 128, to find out why that is incorrect. P.S. Re-read The Scourging mission as well, P.129.

Mission 5 "the scouring" specifically says fast attack choices, even vehicles are scoring.
So in that mission a storm raven is scoring.
In big guns it isn't because only heavy support units are scoring. But your land raider would be.

The Blood Angel SR is a Heavy Support choice. as the OP said in his post... ianj253 wrote:...For those of you who don't know a BA storm raven is a heavy support choice that can go into hover mode...
It is only Fast Attack for Grey Knights.

I always play it to the base. And there is nothing stopping you from lowering a flying base no where does it say it has to be x amount of inches off the ground.

Except where you must use a model on the base it comes with, so the Stormraven will remain on the large flying base stem.

You only need to use the right size it says nothing about how high it has to be mounted. Also that would mean a flying creature could not take objectives on the same logic but they are mostly mounted standing on the ground.

You can only measure to a flyer's hull when it's being assaulted or when embarking (p.80). All other distances are from the hull -- so place objectives high.
Skimmers bases are ignored except for charges and rams (p.83) so whether or not the flyer is hovering is irrelevant.

Follow these two simple rules to ensure a happy Dakka experience:
Rule 1 - to be a proper 40K player you must cry whenever a new edition of the game is released, and always call opposing armies broken when you don't win.
Rule 2 - Games Workshop are always wrong and have been heading for bankrupcy within 5 years since the early 90s. |

It also doesn't say you can modify the base, does it?

It also does not mention painting or assembling of you models, so if they are off the sprue, and assembled and painted, you can not use them...

It depends on what sort of objective markers you are using and what angle you have mounted the flyer at.
If you are using coins, glass beads, or something flat, it will be much more difficult. The GW skull markers with the new dice sets are a few inches tall ( 2"? I don't have one to look at here )
My Vendettas are mounted what I would call normal, angled slightly down at the nose, maybe 10 degrees. I have seen others with a larger angle, maybe 20-30 degrees.
At 10 degrees, my nose is about 4.4" off the ground, so anything 1.5" or taller and it could score.
