Whilst posting some lists and looking at lists for Imperial Guard the subject of demo vets with harker thrown in would be a way of getting a demo charge and melta bombs up field. However in looking at them, considering them, I'm not quite sure how to kit them out. With Harker and Demolitions they run at 155 points. If I throw more Special and Heavy Weapons on them they can run up to be quite expensive, all on a 10 man guardsman squad with Stealth.
This has led me to ask this: How would you kit out and use a harker squad? Demolitions throw in? Chimera? Special and Heavy weapons?

I generally think the idea is to use Harker instead of a chimera. A way to move up field in a list that's not going all out on chimeras, since a single AV:12 won't last long.
He also seems like a fantastic way to get plasma vets at side/rear armor or into a position where they can blast off a scoring unit sitting on an objective then move onto it themselves. This would work great against an ADL hugging unit where you can come in with a demo-charge behind it (with the 6" move), negating the cover save and potentially make them run off the board.

It seems to work with the tactic of "a battle within a battle" if you have a lot of units that can deep-strike/outflank. Setting up a separate gun-line up-field that's going to force your opponent to respond or deal with two lines of fire.

My experience using him is zero, so I'll be monitoring this thread too.

Well Harker with Demolitions is a first for me. A rather interesting first.

You could run him with a Chimera and infiltrate the whole thing. Or Outflank it all and toss the bomb 18" deep either side of the board.

In either case however, you're paying 155 points for a single shot, demolisher shot. A demolisher leman russ is the same points and better.

I just thought about the Errata changes to Camo-Cloaks, they get an additional +1 to cover save (no more stealth universal rule). With Forward Sentries and Harker they get a minimum of +5 cover, so loaded up with SW and HW , outflanking with deepstrikers into cover might be a good, expensive, idea...

Expensive, true, but given almost any cover, and you'll have an incredibly tough guardsmen squad with a 2+ cover save. Your greatest fear would be ignore cover attacks and assault, however. New Chaos Codex has plenty of both.

The beauty of outflanking them is that *hopefully* you can put them way out of range for anything with ignore cover. If not, there's always the option of focussing it down with them on the turn they arrive. This is a cool idea, now I just need to find some way to convert Harker.

For 210 points you can get 3 plasma and 2HB or 1HB/1AC into their line with +2 to cover save, coupled with storm troopers you might have a viable method of force projection.

Scouts kit has a man portable heavy bolter; the arms aren't too off from guardsmen's arms.
