Subject: Ork Kannons. MFA?

I recently got a couple of dwarf cannons to ork-ify and use as ork kannons. Mostly because the dwarf ones are only $2.5x their points cost, not $3x. And they aren't special order finecast, which are sure to arrive deformed (or otherwise just snap to pieces in transport).
But dwarfs apparently aren't just small, they have their own smaller base! So the cannon is much smaller than I was expecting. They're basically 1.5"x2".
Would you consider this MFA vs a regular ork kannon?
Should I mount them on 60mm bases to compensate?

I wouldn't call MFA, the actual Kannon model is pretty small too.
And you could put them on a 60mm base if you want, it would be appropriate size for that size of model.

Their Orks... there is no such thing as MFA! They pillage and loot... and use the big gunz.

Do what you feel is right. I don't think that Ork Big Gunz come with bases, so you run into the danger of some yahoo claiming you are MFA if you do that. Anyway, it is a hobby game and conversions are allowed, so maybe add some bitz to make a larger imprint for markers and templates, but my Zzap Gunz are really short, as in the Grots can look over them, so you probably won't have to do anything to increase the height for Line of Sight discrepancies.

My mate's Ork kannonz are really small too, and I don't hold it against him. It's not like he ever hit anything with them.

This is the other issue of course.
I'll leave them without bases. I mean a grot has to be able to move this thing after-all, so it shouldn't be too big.
Or perhaps I should make my next ones motorised...
Thanks everyone. Good to know that the normal ones aren't huge either.

Just compare the size of these artillery pieces to their crew models.

Well, your opponent should thank you for not hurting his eyes with the ugly original model
You don't actually gain any major advantage from the gun being slightly bigger or smaller, so you can't really call it modelling for advantage by definition. If the model is smaller, just dive the benefit of doubt to your opponent when figuring out cover, templates, blasts, etc, and you're set.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |
