Through the looking glass

Greetings all. There's a doubles tourny coming up pretty soon near me, and it's a 1400 pt tourny (weird but whatever) that gives each player 700 pts. Additional rules include only letting you pick one each of Elite, Fast Attack, Heavy Support and Fortification units additionally optional, with a requirement of 1 hq and one troop.

I'm rolling IG and my friend is running daemons.

On my end, I think the squadron rules will help me here. For 700 pts I can field

CCS
Veterans
2x Lemans
2x Vendettas w/ sponson HB

For a small point game, that's a lot of armor and firepower, but it's really lacking in regards to boots on the ground. Not to mention the boots on the ground are incredibly weak and vulnerable. I'm trying to give my friend advice but I'm not sure how to go about it. Because of the random nature of his army, I believe it best that he do a support role. It's a tourny, and we don't mind being cheesy, but I don't think boon spam works at this low of point level. Besides boon spam I don't know much else you can do with daemons. If I'm in the back and in the air, the bad armor save won't be getting any better. There's always grinders now that they're daemons, but I'm still not sure. Advice?

Have your friend focus on scoring units and counter-assault. IG are great at bringing efficient firepower, especially in small games, but weak on durable scoring units. So you take the big guns and veterans and use them aggressively, while your friend brings durable scoring units to drop onto objectives and secure them.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Do you think in a game this small blobs would be preferable? That's what I ran back in 5th, and I've yet to pull them out for 6th considering just about everyone says that method is trash. However if I blob it up I sure could bring a lot of firepower to the table, but I'd be losing that AV14 and battlecannon.
