I am going to be playing 40k for the first time in a small tournament in my local gaming club. I have played lots of fantasy and necromunda so know a bit about what I am doing. It is escalation but starts at 500 points. This is the list I have worked out:

2 Obliterator - 140
3 bikes of nurgle /w 2 flamers - 98
10 cultists - 50
5 plague marines - 120
Chaos lord of nurgle - 80

This leaves 12 points unspent, I might give the lord a chain axe or combi melta or maybe give the cultists autoguns (seems like best option).

The idea is that the obliterators handle any vehicles, the bikes take out anyone camping in cover and the troops (including lord) stand on an objective and hope to survive 6 turns. I wanted to give my lord a powerfist and bike so he could wreck some havoc with the bikers but there isn't enough points for it sadly. Theres also no upgrades for the plague marines.

How flawed is this list? I really want to keep the bikes as I have converted some space marine ones out of the dark vengeance box set (http://www.coolminiornot.com/314391).

500pts is tough... Personally i'd go for more bodies.
Just a point, if you sit on an objective with your plague marines, the only thing you will attract is pie plates. Which will probably be wounding on 2+ anyway, FnP is a lot worse and your unlikely to be assualted with the bikers around. so blight grenades are mis-spent. I could be wrong, but i'd be happy to sit a 5 man CSM squad on my objective. with MoN only if i had the points.
In a 500pts game every point counts, so lets have the Lord doing something! Get it on a bike? If you can have him and a champ with meltbombs, i'd be happy to drop an oblitorator!

My list
Lord - Bike, melta, Combi-flamer/melta
5x CSM (for objective sitting
8x CSM - CCW (replacing bolter)
3x bike - 1x meltabomb, 2x flamer
Oblitorator

I've not got my codex to hand but points should be close.

Thanks, I'll have a look at those costs when I get home, I was slightly worried by the lack of bodies so dropping the Obliterator and the plague bit of the marines makes sense. And it means I get to convert another bike.
