Hello Dakkadakka Community!, I am unfortunately having a tough time trying to decide which army to start next, I Would like a hardy race, so I am trying to avoid Guard, Eldar (already own them), etc. I have been looking into Grey Knights, Blood Angels, Necrons, possibly Dark Angels. I figured who better to ask then experienced players of these armies, I like Gk's ability to have a mix and match force, can these be effective? Can foot gk be effective? Is the main draw of Blood angels is Cramming FC, FnP, Fearless guys down there throat? What kind of mileage can you get out of a Dark Angels dex without resorting to spam? Any and all help is greatly appreciated, please leave all advice, insight, and such!

Howdy, I am a guard player and I understand your hesitance at using them and I won't fight you.

I will, however, reccomend the Necrons. They've been recently updated, they've got a whole lot of options to choose from and thier weapons are fantastic. I've fought them and they're a real threat on the field.

I wish I could speak from a real point of authority on this, but I've only gleaned what I know from a few fights here and there.

I hope get all you desire in your new choice, whatever it may be!

I love the smell of cordite in the morning.

Yep, the Necrons can be pretty tough! Especially those frickin fliers! That being said, if you can wait just a little bit, the new Dark Angels codex will be out soon (some time in the next two months I think. Could be wrong). That could be a very cool army as well with there ability to take terminators as troops. I played DA in second edition and it was always one of my favorite armies!

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

Thanks so far for the insight guys! keep it coming, use to play guard had an elysian army...they were awesome just not me, I have a chaos force now(which will prob be traded for one of these), but ill be honest, I dislike the new dex, new cool rules yes but still fundamentally lacking the depth. Dark Angels was my first 40k army so i have a big soft spot for them (plasma cannons in tac squads) which make me think the DV box is a steeal and a half for DA players

I also like hard to kill lists, with necron one of my favorite units is:
6 Canoptek Wraiths with Whip coils(3++ invuln save and 2 wounds, and whip coils drop people initiative that are in base contact)
Destroyer Lord(Warscythe, MSS, 2+ armor, toughness 6)

For a very cheap price almost all generic HQs can get a 2+ armor save and a 3++ invuln save and many are toughness 5.

Many of the necron vehicles are also very tough because of quantum shielding(makes them front and side 13 AV till your opponent gets a penetrating hit against them), many of the vehicles are skimmers and benefit from jink(except the monolith).

Reanimation protocols and everliving in a squad with a resurrection orb means that on a roll of a 4+ many of your models can be brought back.

All very true. That's a tough AND killy list!

OP - you might also consider going Chaos Marines and making an all Nurgle army. Typhus leading an army of plague marines and zombies is a daunting prospect!

Funny you should mention that, I actually have the beginnings of a death guard army I started hastily assembling after I got a leak of the new dex about a week and a half ago, So I have a fw plague marine, fw plague termi conversion set, 2 zombie dragons to use instead of the helldrake models, about 50 mantic zombies, and some other assorted fw and gw chaos stuff but after I started really reading the ins and outs of the Dex I was put off, I have played chaos since 3rd and this dex disapointed me to be honest. I was hoping in the least marks would grant real change ie, Mark of khorne +1 WS, +1 Atk, FC, mark of nurgle granting +1t, -1 int, fnp, etc and not +1 [enter stat here]. So the only way Id play chaos is if I exclusively ran typhus which in the long, could get old

Yes and that is Hugely appealing and garners some definite interest in them, my friend plays them and I've seen the resilience and death they can deal with hordes of automaton, A friend also mentioned the deathwing, which Tycho also stated Dark Angels, though I'd prob add my lil twist of an inquistor led Gk terminator squad to come along
