I'm going to collect death korps of krieg. My first buys will be riflemen, followed by a Comissar. Any suggestions for later?

Eh, follow the usual line. Build up the troops and then the HQ choices.
This is really kind of a skimpy idea. It's all up to you, really man. If you've got a game you want to take them to very soon, you should get armor sooner rather than later.
They may be the Death Korps, but they're just as squishy as regular guardsmen.

I'd get a Malcador variant. Pretty cool, very fluffy.

First I would make sure I had enough troops, then I would invest in HW teams. Mortars and heavy bolters are a favorit of mine. Then I would get tanks, Malcador already having been mentioned here

A couple Guardsmen and a Commissar won't be enough to do much of anything. Sell some blood, bone marrow, kidneys or what have you, and make a proper army out of em. You'll need about 100 footsoldiers or so.

Points, yes, but an earthshaker/medusa model cost £63 each. I think that pretty much rules heavy guns out.

True enough, still gonna a bunch of e'm
In that case, 2-3 drills with a 5 men engineers squad with demo charge make a pretty good Krieg Marbo.

I guess so, but then I'm rubbish with vehicles, so the best I can do with a drill is bring it up under hordes of tightly packed light infantry.

Its a str 10 ap 1 melta blast that hit on side armor, its a great vehicle buster too, then its has a str 8 ap 1 melta attack and there's the Engies demo charge.
You might need a few more vehicle busters for AV 14 things, since a one shot weapon isnt that reliable.

Hmm... engineers are troops, right? 10pts each is definetly worth it. What is a demolition charge? The Hades is certainly coming. But, trouble is engineers cost £28 for 1 unit, but it's £37 for 2 units of 6pt riflemen. 2 troop, 1 HQ is all I need, and I'm looking to get it cheaply.

Well, assuming you use the actual DKoK siege army list. If you use the standard IG codex you can take vet squads with Hades drills and cut your troops down to about 30 models (plus artillery crew). That's what I did with mine, and I don't regret the choice.
This. How can you not like the HADES BREACHING DRILL? Most awesome unit in 40k, and the fact that it wins games very effectively is just a nice bonus.

You're playing DKoK. Don't even think about the financial cost and buy a battery of Medusas. It's not a proper DKoK army unless you have the big guns. Don't forget that the basic infantry have to be taken as a platoon, which means at minimum each troops choice is going to need a 5-man PCS and two 10-man infantry squads. Engineers (and vet squads if you use the IG codex) for your drills can be taken as single squads.

1. I do like the Hades. I don't see what you mean. 2. Could you simplify the last bit?

Basically, a bare minimum engineer squad and drill will cost you 50£ while a bare minimum platoon is 98£.

"You" in the general sense, as in "how can anyone not like it".
2. Could you simplify the last bit?
Read the codex and/or army list. You can't take single infantry squads, you have to take an entire platoon composed of multiple squads. Engineers/veterans on the other hand come as single squads.
