Bounding Ultramarine Assault Trooper

Hi everyone, I've been lurking for pretty much a full year and decided to register and start participating in discussions. I come from a roleplayed background and played countless RPGs in the last 25 years. I recently played Warhammer Fantasy 2nd edition for a few years and really digged the setting. So I've been playing 40k for a year now and really enjoy my experience. I even corrupted 3 more persons to play with me and 2 more might join us soon (my usual RPG group). I started with the AoBR box and built about 3500pts of ultra marines and another 3500pts of orks. When 6th came out, I was tempted to try something new so I picked my son in law's Blood angel books and fell immediately in love with them. It was as if GW had mixed the Ultra marines with the orks (game play wise) and they ended up with the Blood Angels. I really like the assault space marines + drop pod delivered death company combination. I have proxied the blood angels for a few game and I am now convinced enough to start collecting them. Since a lot of my ultra marines are still unpainted, I will switch some of them to red. Specifically my Devastators, drop pods, bikes/attack bikes and the land speeders. I already ordered 1 brother corbulo, 2 sanguinary priest, one librarian and a jump pack sprue to give to these guys. I am now tempted to buy a few dreadnought (1 death company and 1 furioso) as well as a Baal bredator. I think I will go with the Angels Encarmine or the Flesh tearer color pattern. I will eventually probably add a few Imperial Guards as allies to provide the back field troops that will take care of controlling deployment zone objectives. Fluff wise, I will probably try to add a blood angel theme to these Imperial guards by adding small red elements here and there to represent the fact that these imperial guards would be permanently attached to the blood angels. The relation between them would be for the marines to assault and decimate opponents and the guards to occupy and control territories gained by the blood angels. The other ones that I have corrupted to 40k plays Dark eldars, Necrons, Tau and Tyranids so these are my opponents I face. Questions: 1) Rule wise, I am pretty much well versed knows a bit of all my opponent's Codexes. What I am now interested in is to learn a bit more of the fuff. I would thus like to read a few novels and am interested to start with both Blood angels Omnibus. Do you guys think these are any good, and if you could point me to some more novels to get a better feel of the imperium I would appreciate it. 2) Death company as Assault marine. I bought about 20 jump pack death companies from eBay and now realize that I might never field such a large death company force, let alone jump packed equipped ones, so any one ever used death companies and played them/painted them as assault marines? The models are very good looking and feel far more interested in these models for my assault marines.

Hi, welcome to Dakka!
Not sure about the Blood Angels Omnibus, I haven't ready it personally.
As for the Death Company/Assault Marine thing, I think that should be fine, I'd let you use them as assault marines against me. But if you're planning on taking them to a tournament I'd probably double check with the TO first though.

Thanks for the reply, no I don't intend to participate in tournaments since I don't think there are ever any in my area. So its basically boiling down to friendly games and store located games.
