So, its out today, for those of us who picked it up, what do you think so far?
Myself, I got the first "real" mission so far (have barely started it) and I gotta say, being stealthy is a little bit more difficult than I imagined it would be. But then again, it wouldn't be difficult if I had more patience when being stealthy
Graphics are pretty good on PS3, though I imagine if I had bought it on Steam, I'd be blown away by the beauty, and the story thus far makes sense, and hasn't been told in a bad way, IMO.
I pre-loaded it on steam so i have another day and a bit to go but i won't be able to actually play it until Monday next week :(

I look forward to playing it Friday.

Pretty fun so far, I hope it's not a short game.
You might dissapointed in that. There has been a massive outcry about it being really short. Someone who got it early apparently finished it in 4 hours.

People complaining the game is too short are a joke. I let someone play some of my games long ago, and I noticed her would skip through dialogue and cutscenes, not bother exploring locations, and not care about finding hidden trinkets. He would just run through the level looking for things to kill. After slaughtering whatever he would just move on and find something else to kill. I also know someone who just turns on god mode and ran through the main story of fallout 3. He literally knows nothing about the game except for what happens In the main quest.
So far I thoroughly enjoy the game. I've sunk about 4 hours into it, and I think I'm on the 4th missions. I leap across rooftops, I soak up every journal I can, I try not to kill anyone, and I love searching for hidden goodies and alternate ways to accomplish the mission.
The only faults I have with the game are that the silent hero bit at the beginning is stupid. Someone offs an important person, and you just sit there and say nothing as they take you in. That really started things in a foul way for me storywise. It would have been different if they would have ambushed you or something, but no. Vengeance for being convicted of a crime you never said you didn't do.
The other problem I have with the game is the concept of killing people. It tells you early on that killing people makes the world a darker place, and if enough people die you get a bad ending. So If you like to make your character a good person, you basically get one weapon with limited ammo and a sneak attack that can only be used on people who don't know you're there. All of those fun sharp and explosive gadgets will never be used. The inclusion of more nonlethal means of hurting people would have made things so much better.
Also, that feel when you knock out all the guards in a building because you know they aren't all evil people, only to have the rats show up and eat them anyways. Ugh.
“Sometimes I can hear my bones straining under the weight of all the lives I'm not living.”
I'm enjoying the HELL out of the game. I do end up killing a decent amount of people but my chaos is still relatively low. I also sometimes skip on dealing with stuff, which cuts off the vun und only vun non-lethal option for a target.
Spoiler:
In mission 2 dealing with the High Overseer, that was frakking LOVELY! it really made my day how you could have him branded a heretic. How ever I knocked out Captain of the City Watch what's his face, sparing him and STILL he died some how... even though I used a sleep bolt on him. I felt horrible cause I wanted to help the maid out
I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn
Lemme at least leave a good hoof beat they'll remember loud and long
I just beat the game last night. I was able to make it through without killing anyone. I was quite happy with that.
Spoiler:
I was able to save the captain. I spilled the poison glasses and that made them go down to a secret room where I was able to dart the overseer. It took a few times to get down and back without being spotted.
It took about two days, so something like 10 hours give or take. I thinking I will replay it. This time I and going unleashed. Non violent has too few options.
Damn, it's EASY to be evil... I think that's actually PART of it. Like there's distinctly a morality message in here to how easy it is to kill, how easy it is to "fall" to immorality in it's various forms.
Gonna go through again to get the other ending then I'll turn it in for store credit towards the next game. It was good but it doesn't have the insane replay value I was hoping for. Still very good, still worth playing for sure, and with a VERY unique play style.
On another note I was kinda disappointed in the movement aspect of the game. I was hoping for a more free climbing "Assassin's Creed" style of movement.

It's honestly one of my favorite games ever at this point. I've heard that it's one of those games that you HAVE to play through at least twice. I definitely will play it again without killing anyone after this play through is over. I try to approach every mission with as much stealth as possible, however I have killed about 25 enemies per mission and have had a high chaos on every misson.

Are sleep darts lethal? The game keeps thinking they are.
I used a sleep dart on that Curnew guy, so he doesn't get in my way when I try to escape, and the game thinks he's dead.
I was very annoyed.

I think it's because, the House Guards attack him. When I poison the Overseer, the Guards came to attack him, and he fought his way off, and escaped. Maybe the Guards kill him, if he's sleeping.

Did you hide him in a "safe place"? Because just knocking him out him was not enough. There was an additional objective you might have missed.
EDIT: And no, using sleeping darts is not killing. Also, you can kill animals (rats, dogs etc..) without loosing "no killing" mission objective or increasing chaos.

Huh, makes sense. The overseer is out to get him. I'll replay the mission, and try that.
Won't he try to attack you if he sees you though?

See, after hearing how damn short the game was, and spending well over 10 hours exploring and getting to the Regent (and then publicly shaming him with his confession, then watching his guards drag him off to prison for execution later...), I am almost ashamed to admit I was genuinely surprised at the quite obvious twist that then happened. Damn people saying it was a short game!

Spoiler:
I kinda guessed it just as I walked into the pub... I was kinda thinking to myself "What would I do if I were them" and the answer was pretty much "Kill me".
Ending the game on High Chaos is entertaining... As is murdering your way across a city...

I absolutely loved it. The game is fun and all the sneaking and choking blokes around thrills me in a way I should probably see a shrink about
Still on my first play through after several hours, and boy I need to work on my stealth. One moment I was sneaking and the next I am standing on a pile of dead bodies, looking at my hands and horrified at what i have done. needless to say, chaos was really high, to the point I was starting to hate myself as the player for continuing my murderous rampage across Dunwall. The whole thing where...
Spoiler:
Emily opens up the door after the Regent mission to ask you how many people you killed is when things started to look bleak to me. I like that touch in the game.
Playing on high Chaos really made me see how "An Eye for and Eye makes the whole world go blind"
I finished the game with the "good" ending and it leaves you with a very satisfying feeling. I also like the song in the end credits, I'll to find out what it's called.
Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?
