I mean not all of them would have been corrupted and i guess the ones who still sided with the emperor would have been killed by the others but could some of them have been on assignment somewhere and afterwards got the new Chaos memo and split?

For the record, the Luna Wolves were renamed Sons of Horus even before the Heresy. They didn't change their name because of the Heresy. When the betrayal at Istvaan III happened, there were lots of non-traitor Sons of Horus, among other Legions, who were fighting against their traitorous brothers.

If you're interested in learning more, read the first four books of the Horus Heresy: Horus Rising, False Gods, Galaxy In Flames, and Flight of the Eisenstein.

I always wonder whether there were traitor Astartes who went along willingly with the break from the pen pushers of the Imperium and fought their former allies but then realised just how deeply they'd got into things and attempted to back out of the whole Chaos worshipping thing ("I thought we'd established there were no gods, this is a load of warp nonsense"). Obviously, they aren't part of Malcador's merry band that are traitor Legion loyalists on the run as it were, and I suppose they got the Isstvan III treatment once it became apparent to their comrades that they weren't quite onside with this Chaos "God" worshipping thing.

Certainly no one in the Word Bearers, but I can see some of the traitor Legions containing guys who fought for their Primarchs and brothers as a matter of honour and to preserve the legacy they'd carved out before the civil servants started poking their noses into things but realised they'd made a bit of a mistake when the tentacles and suchlike started sprouting from their comrades' torsos.

The Traitor Legions all had loyalist elements that were purged. Making one who survived is perfectly reasonable and is in fluff as it is (Garro).

Hmm, not entirely sure if that is true of the Night Lords as they went rogue before the events of the Heresy, but this is pretty much the case.

Previous to what has been newly written in the Heresy series I would have said that this would not have been the case for Night Lords, Iron Warriors, Word Bearers and Alpha Legion, as all seemed to follow their Primarchs without question and were more loyal to these than the Emperor, but the addition of the new background shows us otherwise and adds a new level to each. It adds an extra dimension to the these Legions that their were those loyal to the Emperor and would not blindly turn from his light.

The Alpha Legions inter Legion fighting is yet to be seen, but we can see it forming in the agendas of their Primarchs.

When the fluff was first publish it appears that there were 10 - 11 Sons of Horus that fled with Garro on the Eisenstien making up the 70 that fled on board the ship.

Yeah, there's no reason why not.

As others have stated, there's already a precedent for loyalists from traitor legions cropping up heresy era,

you could easily work that into the 'current' era of 40k.

E.g. Luna Wolf cruiser lost in the warp before Davin reappears in the 41st millenium.

Loyalist splinter group from a traitor legion lays low during the heresy only to re-emerge posing as one of the countless successor chapters that are about post heresy. (One of the theories about the Blood Ravens is that they're ex Thousand Sons who did precisely that)
