I recently ran out of marines to assemble and yet got the urge to do something creative last night, having not touched the chosen from the DV boxed set and being in possession of an abundance of spare bitz I set about trying to create a really unique looking marine. The chosen bodies make them larger (I think) and more unique than most of the marine sculpts so it gave me a great starting point, and over a couple of hours I ended up with this:

About 6 hours of painting this afternoon have got me to this stage:

The colour scheme is what I hope to get all of the inner circle of my DA successor chapter in but I am mostly curious how people feel the conversion went, there are several parts of the model that caused me issues and it was only when fully assembled I noticed the miniatures right leg actually only had half a pauldron at the base so I had to work on concealing this.

Obviously varnishing will blend the decal "shine" in with the model

C&C welcome!

Honestly, it looks a little busy, even for a sternguard. But on the other hand, the red on the cloak is simply gorgeous, and i need to know how you did it.

overall it's a great model though, can't wait to see the rest of the squad

Which parts would you say make it look busy? It'd be a good reference for what not to stick on the next member of the squad as a mark of progress. The red is layered up from Khorne Red (new) ending on blood red (old) with a flesh wash over the top to blend the colours a little more.

Thanks for commenting.

the most obvious part would be the shield at his leg, it just seems at though it shouldn't be there. if you were to remove that, i think the model would be fairly well rounded

The shield is unfortunately concealing a molding fault on the leg that seems to have lost half of the pauldron (or I may have slipped with a saw but I dont think so) its positioning is awkward as you mentioned however until I think of a better fix it conceals more than it detracts.

Having been working on a second sternguard these marines may end up as count-as Wolfguard in an allies SW detachment, I'll post up my second conversion in progress in a moment.

I like it overall, but I think the backpacks are a bit too chaos-y. You can still see the horns and spikes on them. I haven't really taken a close look at my chosen so I'm not sure how hard they would be to remove.

I've switched out the second models backpack for a stock SM one to remove some of the chaosy vibe and realised I hadnt filed down the star on the cape, both of which are in progress now.
