I'm a big fan of the Horus Heresy books. I really enjoy what the Black Library has been putting out and can no longer contain myself from creating a Renegade Army. I wanted to make this P&M Blog so that I keep true to my vision and to motivate me to paint, model, convert, and share! I will be using the new Chaos Space Marine book for this army, Primarily. I will also be using the Horus Heresy Forge World Books, too. I don't know how they will always mix on the table top. Perhaps Chaos with Space Marine allies, perhaps all Chaos Space Marines, Perhaps something in between. At any rate, it will use a lot of the Mark III Forge World Power Armor (My favorite), Chaos Space Marine stuff, and the new FW Shoulder Pads and Transfers.

Here we go!

Name: Disciples of Horus

Background: Following Abbaddon's 12th Black Crusade, a Chaos lord (former captain of the Luna Wolves, AKA Sons of Horus) and his Tzeentch Sorcerer BFF have splintered off from the Black Crusade, feeling that Abbaddon has lost his way, along with his sanity. With them is a company's worth of heritage Luna Wolves (Sons of Horus) that are fed up with dealing with other legions and renegade chapters and want to take the fight to the Imperium in their own way. Abbaddon has been too careless with Legion troops under his command and has blinders on with regards to his crusade.

Makeup: They'll mostly be Renegade Space Marines with Chaos Undivided and Tzeentch marks/icons. There might be a few units that follow Khorne/Nurgle, but they would be the exception rather than the norm. After all, having followed Abbaddon for hundreds of years, they will certainly have been exposed to these ruinous powers. At most, that would be a Havok or Chosen squad with a mark/icon that isn't Tzeentch.

I won't be fielding the Legion Troops (Plague Marines, Thousand Sons, Khorne Berzerkers), but I'll occasionally take a few Tzeentch (and only Tzeentch) Chaos Daemons allies to go with them. Perhaps some screamers, a Daemon prince, some flamers, and pink horrors. I'll perhaps have a 1,000 - 1,500 point sideboard to pull from, when all is said and done. The Daemons will only be Tzeentch because the Sorcerer will be Tzeentch, and these would represent the ruinous powers that the Tzeentch Sorcerer "deals" with from time to time, and what he can call upon to help the warband.

There will be havocks, chosen, standard troops, and some heavy vehicles. I'm not sure about Obliterators. Perhaps they have made an arrangement with some members of the Obliterator cult where they keep their vehicles in repair in exchange for any xenos or rare technology they find in their endeavors.

Colors: Blue and Silver will be the primary colors, with bone white being the accent color. They will all wear the Eye of Horus on their uniforms (the timing of the upcoming Sons of Horus shoulder pads and transfers from Forge World is Freaking Awesome!!) , as they feel they are the true, "pure" descendents of Horus. Pure is a rather loose term, as they will have some Nurgle/Khorne/Tzeentch worshipers in their midst.

Models: Primarily Chaos Space Marines. I will also use some Mark III armor marines to use as either troops and Havocks for Chaos Space Marines or the New Horus Heresy FW books. Yes, I'm aware that some models won't make sense to use for both. That's fine. I'll keep my table top "pure!"


And now, some models! Yes, I know the bases are plain. I haven't decided what I want to do with this army's bases. Definitely resin. First up is a Dark Vengeance Chosen or Lord.







Next up is the new Dark Vengeance Hellbrute!







And finally a Chosen from the Dark Vengeance set. With a bolter. Because he bolts stuff!

Looking good. That blue is really nice. The marines and the Helbrute are really nicely done. The DP is not bad, although he is a bit orange-y for my taste, and could use a little depth. Maybe hit it with a red wash?

Here is the first Cultist for my army. This is a Dark Vengeance cultist, obviously. I haven't decided on how I will base my minis.

For my next model, I decided to go big: Chaos Warhound Titan.

During my Thanksgiving Break, I completed the legs and base.



I used Scibor miniatures Terrain on the base.



I also tossed on a Chosen Model from the Dark Vengeance Starter Set for fun.

This Warhound Titan will be named Warhound Jihadin.

I finished assembling my first squad for my disciples of horus. This is a Chaos Space Marine Squad with two Meltaguns and a combi-melta.

For Chosen and Havock Squads, I'll be using Forge World MKIII armor.

And here are the first three members for a CSM squad for my Disciples of Horus. This will be a 10-man squad with 2 meltagunners and a Champion with Combi-Melta.

I'm on Winter Break (took the last half of December off with vacation) and I'm been a busy bee.

First up is a fun mini to assemble. And by fun I mean "Oh my god, why doesn't this freaking ammo feed belt line with the backpack and the gun at the same time! Bring me beer!" Anyway, I'm used to resin, and after using very hot water as slowly working the ammo feed belt into the right position, I finished this model. This is MKIII Armor with the FW Autocannons that came out last month. I love this model. Just 9 more to go.... I like the Horus shoulder pads.





For my first unit of Chaos Space Marines (2x Meltaguns with Champion toting a combi-metla), I've completed 6 men.



And finally, I've finished the Warhound Titan's Head. The inside was fun to paint. I will post much better pictures using my photo light box when it's complete. Sorry for the poor resolution on these. I'm really enjoying this project, but find that after I finish a section, I really want/need/desire to do something else. I WANT to finish this during the Winter Break. That's my primary goal. Secondary goal is to complete the first CSM squad. Tertiary goal is to assemble 8 MKIII marines with Autocannons.

Warhound Titan Jihadin Complete! I spent the last 2 days finishing this up! I painted the cockpit, engine room, and each gun separately, then fastened them together. Here are the results!

Kronk you have nailed it mate.My favourite part is the cockpit it's just awesome.If i had one criticism it would be that the base is too clean(get that fether filthy man),but thats no biggie really.Any way thanks for posting i love it.

And I've started the first of 2 Rhinos for March.

Step 1: Assemble my 15th Rhino Chassis..



Step 2. Prime blue with Ultramarine Blue Primer from the Army Painter

Step 3. Cover with blue tape.

Step 4. Using a stencil, draw out the shape you want. In this case, the 8 fold path symbol.

Step 5. Cut out the shape with an exacto knife.





Step 6. Spray with the accent primer. I chose metallic silver from the Army Painter.

Rhinos!

Kronk, those are subtly done. I thought they were pretty basic at first, but I can see the highlighting, the shading on the bottom near the treads. How did you do the Tzeentch and Chaos symbols? And are those Dirge Casters in the first two shots?

Thank you. In person, I think the edge highlights and rust on the tracks, wheels, and lower chassis came out as planned. Yep, those are Dirge Casters! You don't get near enough Coppola's for a rhino on the sprue, though.

Update: The humidity in Houston hasn't been below 50% for some time. I have my next squad assembled (10-man CSM squad), but haven't been able to prime them! I've had mixed success with GW's brush-on primer, so I'd rather not go that route. I might miss this month's goal. Hopefully the weather will cooperate Thursday.

On the up side, I've assembled ANGRON! He's still in several components to make painting easier. He'll be put together in one piece after painting is complete.

I know this is a huuuuge three month Necro, but you've gone quiet on us kronk! To busy eating harmanz?

Sorry about the lack of updates. I'm in the middle of changing jobs and am about to move to the Chicago area from Houston. My hobby time will remain on hold for the next 3-4 months.

That blue is sick man. Looks great on a chaos army. I love seeing bright colors like that on models that are supposed to be dark and dreary. Looks good. Post more soon!
