I am trying to see if there is a distinct difference between the modeling of Hungarian and German infantry models. Is there a dakka member that can explain the differences or take a picture of both side by side?

Hungarian and German models definitely have different uniforms and rifles. However, for things like artillery crew, you can usually pass off the German models for the Hungarians.

Here is a great site that has the Hungarian models upclose with a nice painting guide:

Thank you so much!

So theres no way i could pass off the the open fire Germans as Hungarians? Whats different specifically with their gear load out?

It's the models look really, the uniforms and weapons are different - not always the in game rules though (an MG is an MG)

Im not looking to be exactly historically accurate but at least be in the ballpark. The historical aspect of this game, and the efforts we put forth to follow what we read is what make this game uniquely fun.

IE my German models look different and cant be used as Hungarians.

Anyone looking for a potential trade of the infantry from the German side of open fire? lol

Well, the beauty of this game is that an infantry team is an infantry team is an infantry team. Meaning, if you paint you open fire Germans in the Hungarian colours, your opponents will still have no trouble knowing what the unit is (unlike some huge BS conversions I've played against in 40k).

While on the table top, The only figs that really don't match are the command figures with the pistol and the hat, but mostly cause the Hungarian hats were pretty different looking (imo). However, the German and Hungarian helmets are almost identical.
Also, the Germans and Hungarians were fighting side by side when the Russians were marching through Hungary and onto Budapest, so it's not farfetched that they could have just grabbed whatever gear was available while trying to slow down the commie assault.

It might be neat to make your bases with models painted as both Germans and Hungarians. Paint the guys with rifles the hungarian colours, while the guys holding uniquely german weapons like the MG42, paint in german colours.
I do something similar with my 2nd House Hold Cav company. I included a bunch of Polish paratroopers on the brit airborne bases since the 2nd HH Cav linked up with the Pols first.
