Guarding Guardian

I'm playing in a very non-competitive tournament that is inspiring my gaming group to get our armies fully painted. I wanted to know what people think of the following list. It isn't meant to be incredibly powerful, but I want to make sure it will at least be able to put up a bit of a fight.

Eldar Army: 1000 pts

Farseer: 183 pts
- Jetbike
- Spirit Stones
- Runes of Warding
- Singing Spear
- Guide, Mind War, Eldritch Storm (switching for BRB powers)

Guardian Jetbikes x 3: 119 pts
- Jetbike Warlock
- Singing Spear
- Embolden

Dire Avengers x 10: 152 pts
- Exarch
- Dual Avenger Catapult
- Bladestorm

Rangers x 6: 144 pts
- Pathfinders

Guardians x 11: 103 pts
- Scatter Laser

Warp Spiders x 5: 152 pts
- Exarch
- Dual Death Spinner
- Powerblades
- Withdraw

Swooping Hawks x 5: 147 pts
- Exarch
- Sunrifle
- Skyleap

I'm still working on painting some of it, so it's not set in stone. However, due to time constraints, I probably won't be able to get any vehicles done for it. What are your thoughts?

Well, obviously it isn´t the most competitive of lists - but you were going for that so it´s fine.

A couple of reccommendations that I´d suggest:

Your Farseer is going to be the lynchpin of the army, especially at 1000pts. I´ve often found that when playing pure Eldar, I cannot swap for the BRB powers, because I rely so heavily on the eldar ones. Judging by his loadout, your farseer is going with the bikers so I´d change him to resemble this,

1. Farseer - 168pts.
w/ Singing spear, Runes of warding, Spirit stones, Eldar jetbike, Fortune, Doom.

Here, Fortune will allow your unit of Jetbikes to survive much longer and Doom will help consolidate on their Twin-Linked weapons.

----------------------------

Next, I´d change the GJBs to be bigger, to make full use of Fortune and Doom;

2. Guardian Jetbiker Squadron - 205pts.
w/ 6 members, 2 shuriken cannons, Warlock; embolden, singing spear.

This will obviously be your core unit that the average 3 S6 hits a turn will allow it to threaten most anything when combines with Doom and the singing spear from the farseer and Warlock

---------------

I fell that Footslogging eldar is just asking for them to be shot dead, besides Pathfinders. Therefore, I´d reccommend that you ditch the Dire Avengers (unless you can get them a Wave serpent) and run this;

3. Rangers - 144pts.
w/ 6 members, Pathfinders.

4. Rangers - 144pts.
w/ 6 members, Pathfinders.

5. Rangers - 144pts.
w/ 6 members, Pathfinders.

This gives you a deceptively fragile Troops basis which can be very difficult to move and due to their static nature and good BS, won´t hamper the rest of your force by being caught in the open and/or requiring Guide.

--------------------

I would really like to reccommend Scatter-Laser War walkers to you, as they are one of the most point-efficient units in the Eldar army at 180pts. I think that they would round of the army perfectly and give you long-range heavy firepower that is a bit lacking here.

However, alternatively, you could try some Warp Spiders;

6. Warp spider squad - 193pts.
w/ 8 members, Exarch, dual deathspinners

This gives you a fast-moving, ´resilient and hard-hitting source of S6 fire power that can keep up with the Jetbikes for the most part and will be your main source of anti-transport fire power.

Total = 998pts.

---------------

Obviously this list will struggle with AV13 or above, as most eldar lists do without Fire Dragons, but at 1000pts there probably won´t be too much of that around.

Also, this list is far from competitive, I´d much rather have suggested 2 Dire Avengers squads in Wave Serpents but the Pathfinders can work if placed correctly. Use the Pathfinders to snipe out special weapons which could either ID your Farseer or pose a threat to the Pathfinders themselves - like flamers.

Hope this helps,

Iranna.

I'd drop the hawks and add more spiders. 5 is nice, but 10 is beastly.

I don't mind the farseer going for book powers, because the primaris is just a better guide. Lack of fortune could hurt though. I'd probably have presience and hope for the reroll saves power.

Personally, I've had a lot of success with 10 warp spiders given guide recently. The manueverability and sheer shot output of this unit is staggering. 22 twin-linked shots hitting on 3s and wounding on 2s makes a mess of any squad. Then the bounceback creates some real mistmatch problems with return fire.
Not to mention that str6 adds a lot of duality combined with their ability to get side/back shots on vehicles and walkers. Duality is extremely useful in 1000 point games for eldar since you just don't have the points to get seperate anti-tank squads.
