Company Colors, why is it so important?

If you got the new Dark Vengance set you might wonder the same thing; "Do I have to paint these bikes Black? Do I have to paint these terminators Bone White?".

What if you don't use the hero making them Deathwing and Ravenwing squads? What if they are standard terminators and bikers?

This post is to better understand you as the gamer, and how you would want to see DA on the table.

Well to keep going with it the Librarian would be blue and the chaplain would also be black. It just adds more character into it.

As per the codex, otherwise they're not DA

What do you mean at normal bikers and termies? All Terminators in a DA army are members of the first company, called Deathwing, and it is the same with bikers and ravenwing.

10000pts of Blood Angels
3200pts of 30k Blood Angels
4000pts of Tyranids
3000pts of Eldar
1500pts of Grey Knights
4000pts of Seraphon
4000pts of Daughters of Khaine
2000pts of Skaven
3000pts of Disciples of Tzeentch
1000pts of Beasts of Chaos

And if you read the codex you will realise that DA don't exactly follow standard Codex Astartes.

The only bikes are in the 2nd company (Ravenwing). The only terminators are in the 1st company (deathwing). The presence or absence of a character doesn't change what company they are a part of.
The only exception here are Company Masters may take terminator armor. But to be a Company Master means you have risen through the ranks and been a part of the 1st company, and are now part of the inner circle.

There are no standard biker or terminator options. It is only Ravenwing and Deathwing.

If you do want to do different colored bikes and terminators, then do a successor chapter. The DW change to bonewhite armor happened after the legions were forced to split up into chapters.

Nice, Thanks guys....

I saw on ebay a new army that had a silver/red concept. But with 15 bikes, and 25 terminators.... it is just easier to make as shown on the box.

Something about solid color kinda gets to me but their is enough details like marks, symbols, and scrolls to make them a little more colorful.

Oh no, someone on the interwebs mentioned not painting his mandolls the colours the big book of pictures shows! Get your pitchforks! BURN THE HERETIC!

Seriously, wow, take a chill pill folks. Paint your little guys the colours you want, use the codex you want, hell call em DA for all I care. Going all picky about how a codex says what colours you have to pick is like interpreting all rules as written, basically being TFG.

I gotta agree with Johnno. Paint them as you want. I mean I have CSM which have a Dark Angels Green basecoat with gold trim, I also have a metallic red Necron army. Providing you and your opponent know which unit is which you could paint your Dark Angels Pink, Blue and Purple.

Colour doesn't mean much on the tabletop other than a nice looking army.

When the rich rage war it's the poor who die

Armies I have: Chaos Space Marines, Tau, Necrons, High Elves

Armies I want:Lizardmen, Warriors Of Chaos, Dark Eldar

Armies I may get: Dark Angels, Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts

shave off all the feathers and DA icons, paint them however I want. I someone doesn't want to play with my army that uses DA rules but is not the right color i will just feel bad for that person and play someone who values playing a fun game over what color ive painted my toy soldiers.

This^ right here. I've been working on painting all my DA army with a uniform color. even the termies and bikes. I hate the deathwing colors. They look like Marines save Christmas or something. Ravenwing is ok, but I just feel like a bunch of black bikers belong with green marines.

I would recommend one for yourself, as well. Nobody was particularly worked up about it... Yours was the first post in the thread that was actually making a big deal of the whole thing.

He asked a question about DA colour schemes, and was answered. Nobody was telling him he couldn't paint them to please himself, just explaining why they are painted as they are in the DA set.

Do you have to paint those bikes black? No. Have a look through the modelling showcase and gallery, you will see plenty of examples of these miniatures painted in different schemes (beautifully, I might add). It is strange that GW released such a specific miniature range for a starter kit anyway, not that I'm complaining

In my opinion, you get the most out of collecting your army if there is something in their story that resonates with you. I have always enjoyed the DA background, which is clear in regards to its first and second company. I would not paint them all green, because I want to reflect my knowledge of who they are and how they got there. That is where the enjoyment is for me! People who don't collect DA with this motivation can do what they like, it's their hobby too. I will enjoy destroying them for pretending to be Dark Angels
