So this is my first army I have been working on, I play with a small, non-competitive, relaxed group and all of us are pretty new to the game. Just wanted to see what people think of the list and maybe any improvements that could be made.

HQ:
Shadow Captain Korvydae
155pts

Elites:
Venerable Dreadnought, Twin-linked Heavy Bolter, Missile Launcher
180pts

Troops:
Tactical Squad. 10 Marines, Powerfist, Meltagun, Heavy Bolter, Melta Bombs
205pts

Tactical Squad. 10 Marines, Powerfist, Meltagun, Multi-Melta, Melta Bombs
205pts

Scout Squad, 5 Scouts, Heavy Bolter, Melta Bombs
90pts

Heavy Support:
Predator Tank, Twin-Linked Lascannon, Lascannon Sponsons
165pts

Total: 1000pts

Looking to expand to 1500pts in the coming months and any suggestions on what to get next would be awesome too!

I understand you aren't interested in being competitive, but why such a boring list? It's neither competitive nor fun (in my opinion). Why not throw a disgusting death star of assault terminators in there to help reach 1500pts.
They can be a lot of fun!

The troops are going to help with all those scoring missions though, so that's covered!

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

It's not a bad start.

What does Korvydae bring to the table? What is his job? Just because you have a Raven Guard army does not mean you need to field their named characters. He's not a basic guy from the core codex, so I can't comment on his specifics. Generally, HQs should be attached to a squad that supports them, not sure what that is with him in this army.

Ven dreads are overpriced IMHO. With a twin linked weapon the BS 5 is mostly wasted. In the world of being glanced to death, the ability to re-roll pens is a little lackluster. For a general purpose dread, I like an assault cannon/DCCW(SB) for fire support I go with a TLLC/ML. Both basic dreads, not venerable. Rifleman (2xTLAC) are also very popular.

For all the points you spent on upgrades your tacs could be in rhinos. I would drop the fists and meltabombs and get some rides.

What are your scouts geared with? If they are snipers, drop the melta bomb. If they are close combat, you would be better off giving the sarge a CC weapon before the HB. You might want to consider camo cloaks.

I hate the TLLC turret for the predator. You are paying a huge amount of points to get rid of the versatile AC. Auto/Las is the way to go, IMHO.

This is a good, solid, general purpose marine force. But it does not say "Raven Guard" to me. You don't have any fast attack. You are foot slogging it across the field. If I were adding 500 points to it, It would probably be 3 FA choices. Speeders, bike squads, talons, assault marines, whatever floats your boat. RG should be about mobility. Hitting your opponent where he does not expect it, and fading back before the counterattack. Your list looks more like an Imperial Fist gunline.

No points here, just the RG theme

How about 2 cc scouts on LSS

Big unit scout bikes w locator beacon

VVs

Terms arriving deepstrike

With tacs obj sitting

Ie scout bikes start, the fast LSS arrive to harrass, then VV and terms arrive for the killer blow

Flier defence would be storm talon as using fortifications very unRG

Thanks for the comments guys. I understand it's a bit of a boring list, it's my first army and I'm still trying to get to grips with the rules and wanted to keep things pretty basic for now. Nevelon I totally agree with that it does not say "Raven Guard" and it's something I want to work on in the future. I liked the idea having cc scouts and LSS and also getting assault marines in the mix as Shadow Captain Korvydae allows me to take them as a troop choice.

I'm gonna have a think about it and re-jig a few bits then post a new list sometime based more around the Raven Guard style.

Thanks for the comments and advice!
