Subject: Can someone tell me how each faction plays?

I'm currently reading through the rules and this definitely seems like my kinda game. I'm gonna be picking up a small force 2 seperate countries, one of them being Germany. I was wondering if someone could give me a rundown on how the other countries play, as I'll be getting the 2nd force for a friend of mine and he wants to know the feel of the other nations before he picks one.

Well, if you already want Germans, I would suggest waiting for the new starter set: http://www.flamesofwar.com/Default.aspx?tabid=79&ProductID=4993
It comes with plastic Germans and British (with US Para. allies) with around 800 pts. on each side.
As to each side, Germans are generally small numbers but elite (usually Confident or Fearless Veteran), British and Americans are middle of the line (usually Confident Trained), and Russians are usually a swarm army, with huge numbers (they fight in battalions instead of companies) and weaker training (usually Conscript MW, Confident Trained LW; but with Hen and Chicks for tanks). The Italians have generally weak AT but large numbers (battalion instead of company, like Russia) because of their unique 8 Million Bayonet rule (you roll their training and morale at the begining of the game).
These all can vary greatly, however, depending on the period (Russians training a lot better in LW, for example) and the type of force you choose.

This was really helpful. I was thinking doing Mid-War. Also if you could tell me about how the French play that'd be great too, my friend's taken an interest in playing as them.

Well, you’re not going to be doing the French in Mid-War; they are only in Early War (France fell in 1940). I am no expert in Early War (beyond the desert war), so I can't advise you in the French's play style. Someone more versed in EW might be able to advise you.

For MW/LW:
Germans - Small numbers of elite tanks/infantry. Some amazing hardware.
British - Balance of numbers and skill levels, powerful artillery
American - Balanced numbers/skill, good artillery, some extremely powerful lists in LW (armoured rifles, tank destroyers)
Soviet Union - Hordes for the most part, some elite lists with heavy vehicles.
MW I believe there is an option to play as Free French, but they're equipped mostly the same as other Western Allies.
EW has a lot flipped the other way, bigger tanks for Allies, better aircraft for Germans etc.

British are better at pinning, but Americans are better at combined arms hordes.

Also would like to add the minor nations as all of these feature prominently in MW;
Finland- elite infantry, smaller numbers, but decent at objective holding. Armor is captured Soviet gear in MW & LW, but have some domestic Tank Destroyers (MW&LW) and German StuG assault guns in LW.
Hungary- decent infantry and mechanized forces, fight like Germans. Armor is German gear with some domestic vehicles thrown in the mix.
Italy- huge infantry formations (battalions) with only light armor for MW. Their skill is random, so you don't know what you'll get, but that's the challenge with them.
Romania- decent infantry in both foot and mechanized battalions and a random skill level like the Italians. Armor is German equipment.
Early War would be the following;
Greece - outfitted like Brit Commonwealth troops with Brit and French gear but also have captured Italian tankettes and some Italian guns. It's infantry and motorcycle troops mainly with Brit support.
French- decent infantry and armor and good bit of artillery. Colonial troops seem to be of sterner stuff, but you can try your hand at the French Foreign Legion on both sides of the conflict (1st Legion vs 3rd Legion circa Damascus?).
Italy- lists are down to the company level here for the campaigns in Greece and North Africa. Skill level is a little lower than in MW, but they have decent guns and more light armor.
Poland- decent infantry battalions and guns but light armor. Armored Train makes its debut here, plus their cav is decent.
I believe this wraps up the minor nations or at least all I can think of.....
