Hi,

I'm still pretty new to 40k and recently got the new CSM codex, i'm a little bewildered that chaos dreadnoughts are no longer in it, have they been replaced with the hell brute?

I really liked dreadnoughts, can they still be played with the old codex rules?

Any light that can be shed on this will be greatly appreciated.

The hellbrute is the new chaos dreadnought - just named and modeled differently

Yeah

Helbrutes are the new Dreads.

Old Codex will be difficult to use outside of your own gaming-circles I would expect.

You can probably use the old models as Helbrutes though.

Sorry but no, even if units are not covered in more recent editions of codexes/army books, only that latest codex's rules apply. Therefore, you can't use the old chaos dreadnought rules. The idea was by GW that they made them more 'chaosy' i suppose and called them 'Hellbrutes'. I'm sure they intented players to use their choas dread models as hellbrutes - they're very similar!

Hellbrutes are dreadnoughts with a new name and you obviously can use your old models.

Wraithlords used to be called Eldar dreadnoughts until they changed it in some point (3rd ed?) This is the same thing.

awesome, cheers guys, thanks for the clarification.

I like the old style dread (hellbrute) models as well as the new one. Will be nice to use them together.

I don't think anyone would complain if you used the old codex. It's basically like playing with a handicap, minus good DPs and cheap-ish plague marines.
