Somewhere Ironic

Howdy Dakka,

I had a rather interesting pair of games today. One against IG, another against Vanilla Marines. In both games, I had two proxy'd forgefiends which basically won me both games.

How can I describe them? Let's start off by saying that they chew through AV 13 or less like it's nobodies business. It was nearly guaranteed that they would cause damage to their targets per shooting phase. My first opponent couldn't even kill one; Daemon rule's 5+ invul, combined with It Will Not Die just kept them floating long enough to slay nearly every vehicle he had.

My second opponent said it best; it's like they have a machine gun that fires Krak Missiles, +1 AP. While the Rifleman Dread for Grey Knights has "essentially" the same thing + Range + TL, a lucky toss of dice with forgefiends gets you 5+ hits; add the re-roll to pen/wound (when you really need it), and you're mowing down light to medium tanks no problem. My opponent managed to kill one, but too late. In this game, I added the extra ectoplasma cannon, to great effect.

I must say, I'm so incredible satisfied with this model's rules, I'm going to base an army around 3 of them. Definitely take the Ectoplasma; 25 points is the price of a power fist, which does exactly the same Str and AP as the ectoplasma. The difference is the latter is a blast ranged weapon you add to you're pair of awesome Hades Autocannons.

Anyone else had experience with these guys?

I have not yet, but I'm glad to see that they are working out.

My Primary Concern with them, was that the 5++ and IWND would not be enough on an AV12 platform. The fact that it is working out, is a very good sign. I hope more people chime in with their experience.

I think I'm going to save these badboys for 2k games only. That way I can double FoC. It's hard to pass up a squad of Havocs, with 4 Autocannons, for only 115 points.

Battle Barge Impossible Fortress

Funny, today I just removed a Maulerfiend so that I could add a 2nd Helldrake. I like the rules of the Fiends. I made some CRAZY invulnerable saves. Haven't made any It Will Not Die rolls.

Fiends really shine when you can put powers on them like Fire Shield combined with Invisibility. Lol 2+ cover save, etc. etc.

I'm glad your forgefiend is working out. I think I prefer the Helldrakes but I have a lot of respect for the fiend because for each time someone glances it a few times, you'll probably be making at least one of the Invulnerables.

I am, honestly, a little scared to give up First Blood. Maybe if the Maulerfiend had 4 Hull Points I would try to keep him in the list. If they had 4 HP, I'd be using two Forgefiends anyways....

To be clear, I think the Fiends' rules are fine units!! A few people are terrified of my Maulerfiend, and with good reason.

Good luck.
