Well, tried searching for this topic, but the search didn't turn up anything, so can anyone gimme some pointers to using the vallejo pigments and fixer to get that dusty effect?

First I tried putting the black pigment where I want it ( exaust ), then smearing fixer over it to get it to stay there - result: big black smear, just like a regular paintjob

Secondly, in a stroke of genius, I tried first putting the fixer on, and then dabbing the pigment before it dries - result: a bit better, but only a small part of the pigment sticks, the rest is easily removed.

So is there an ancient chinese secret technique to this, cause the only thing I could figure out is to try the second method multiple times to get the desired effect...but I thought of asking around before trying that one out.

Any thoughts
