I am in the process of building a list and I am looking to field Abadddon (265 pts) and then 2 10 man squads of Chosen each costing roughly 360 pts each. That is almost 1000 pts tied up in an HQ and 2 Troop choices. Now that is more than half of my 1850 list, are these troops really good at what they do for their points cost? Or should I go a different route with this list?

I suppose that would all depend on what they come with for 360pts. For me, 36pts a guy better come with a 2+. How have you equipped them?

Not worth it when stacked up to chaos terminators and such. Also Abby is pretty pricey for a sub 2k list IMHO.

With Abaddon, you could have an entire army of units with lightning claws. You could say the Black Legion recently raided a forge world that produced only lightning claws. It'd be glorious.
Impractical, but glorious.

The Chosen weapons IMO, were priced into oblivion. When compared to terminators, it's just sad.
I think you're better off served with either the Hordes of Power Armor, or/with Hordes of Cultists
I would like to build a Chosen Army, but I just don't think it's viable. A Base Chosen isn't too bad though, at 19 points, but it adds up quickly with any sort of Upgrade.

It's kind of a shame they gave you such a nice chosen kit, and those fancy boxed set Chosen... I've always been of the opinion that they were too fragile to put good gear on. If I wanted lightning claw spamming, I could have terminators instead. For a while now, Chosen have been trying to fill a gap that just isn't there. They're made even less desirable by Warp Talons also.

No one in the right mind would think of using Chosen in a melee role, and this is true for both the old codex/new codex or 5E/6E. They're one of the most cost efficient ways to take a lot of plasma (great in 6th), and if you're using Abby (which you should if you're going chosen heavy) you get a bubble of "shoot half the armies in the game dead".

They just fit a really specific role.
I take 6, 5 meltaguns, champ with claw and fist, and give it all nurgle.
It's not too expensive and it shoots so very well.
With a take all comers champ just incase.
It's a scalpel on the table.

At 166 points without a transport, with their best defense being T5 and a 3+ armor save.
That's an immobile, fragile scalpel. If they could still infiltrate or outflank that'd be one thing.. but I'd hesitate to spend points on them in their current condition.
I have run Abaddon in a Black Legion list for nearly 2 years. In the new codex, he gets an escort of 20 fearless cultists with no options for a neat 90 points. They slog across the board and deliver him into combat with full wounds - and, just ocassionally, survive long enough to help hold objectives.
My other troop choices are a squad of votlw CSM, unmarked, joined by a Tzeentch ML 3 sorcerer. I also have a squad of Thousand Sons, both cruisin' for a bruisin' inside some rhinos.
I back those up with daemonettes as a 4th troops choice because I also take the Masque for her lovely Pavane, rounding out my list and letting my army do what it does best - break things that think they are safe behind Aegis lines, inside ruins and while running away from Abaddon and a horde of screaming cultists.
