Hello everyone once again, it has been a while since I last posted but now that I have taken a few things (school, military life ect.) I can now focus again on the game I love and enjoy to play. This upcoming November 3rd I will be partaking in a Warhammer 40k tournament (the first one I have in a long while) and will finally be fielding my Elysian Drop troops that I have been working on for a little while. The tournament is 1000pts. and since I cannot use the Forgeworld Elysian Rules I will be doing a themed army from Codex Imperial Guard. This is a first attempt @ this list so as usual any help, comments, toughts or ideas are welcome, thanks for reading guys!

HQ: 75pts.

-Lord Commissar
*w/ Warlord, Bolter, Melta Bombs

TROOPS: 375pts.

-x10 Veterans (*LC Goes Here*)
*w/ x3 Plasma Guns, Forward Sentries

-x10 Veterans
*w/ x3 Plasma Guns

-x10 Veterans
*w/ x3 Plasma Guns

FAST ATTACK: 400pts.

-Vendetta Gunship

-Vendetta Gunship

-x3 Scout Sentinels
*w/ Autocannons

HEAVY SUPPORT: 150pts.

-Leman Russ "Drop Tank"
*w/ x1 Leman Russ Battle Tank

TOTAL ARMY: 1000pts.

Tactics:

-The Lord Commissar and the squad of Veterans with the Camo Cloaks (Forward Sentries) will be camping on any objectives that may be on the board to begin the game along with my scout sentinels and single drop tank (to counter the new stupid reserve rules). The other two squads of veterans will be in the Vendettas that have door gunners and will come in to deal with any other objectives and lay the hurt down on my opponent. I am going heavy plasma as I am expecting a large number of Chaos Space Marine and Space Marines but feel I have enough balance to deal with anything I may come across, let me know what you think!

What are you planning to do with those vets in the vendetta, you can drop them.. (instant death for squad) or disembark normally (instant death for Vendetta). either way not a good idea, i dont like sentinels in general but thats just my opinion, but judging on the other stuff and your tactics it looks alright

Its not instant death for them its just exremely risky , the Grav Cute rule is still quite viable (especially since it takes place in the shooting phase) but other then that they will be zooming around the board taking out targets before planning to disembark them.

it is VERY risky for an army that only has 3 scoring units

I know it is, bu it is how I find that I have the most fun playing the game, also it fits my army fluff quite well and I figure my guys would be safer in a flyer that can only be hit on 6's then running around without any cover. Also I am using Elysian models so I am working with what I have, can only buy so many at a time!

oh so... not so much competetive but just to have fun ... k this is fine then... thought you were looking to be competetive.. yeah ull be fine having fun with this if thats what you want (just between you and me dakka is getting a little to obsessed with winning and not having fun but you seem to have that straightened out) yeah if this is what you like go for it... not the most competetive list but if you want to have fun on a bun go with it

So your not useing the actually Elysian Army List from IA 8. I would remove the leman russ as that is not fluffy. They cant drop chimeras, much less Leman russes.

The fluff actually is not to crazy to realize as I am basing it off the US Sheridan drop tank that was used during Vietnam so it is by no means unrealisic that the Elysians, in the universe of 40k, could do the same. I went with a Leman Russ for competitiveness' sake however have also decided I could run it as a medusa with a closed crew compartment to make it more "fluffy" as both are the same points, one just has a nastier shot but is easier to kill.

In regards to it being competitive or not yes I do want to win games, however I enjoy taking risks and have never had fun building and playing with super competitive lists. As long as I am competitive in my games (and have been in all but 1) and me and my opponent have a good time its a good game for me. Basically I am eventually building to a list that is both balanced in term of competitive and fluffy/fun. Now on another note not relating to the accuracy of my lists fluff, but since the tournament is in November I may have time for one more order from FW so if any of you could throw some ideas out would appreciate it

I think at 1,000 points your focusing a bit much on AP2 guns. Unless your local Meta is all Space Marines you might benefit from having one squad at least carying flamers or add in some other type of Anti horade. doing that will free up a couple of points which you might then add a heavy weapon to the forward sentry unit.

The other thing I see is that your one vet squad with your warlord. and your Russ are the only things on the table from turn 1. meaning they will take all the fire from the enamy. So your going to want to keep your infintry squad back a little as any Mech / Assault army is going to be running full speed towards them and thus wipe them out fairly early if they are anywhere near the front line.

I love your theme and therefore I am quite interested in how you figure that grav chute insertion takes place in the shooting phase? I am fairly positive it takes place in the movement phase, which is the ONLY thing that makes it viable.
Also, if you play this right, there shouldn't be that many threats to a hovering Vendetta left when you switch to fast skimmer type to disembark your troops (:

...that big sanction stamp of APPROVAL means it's OFFICIAL. No, I don't have to ask you for permission. D-cannons win games.

Its because the rule says if a vehicle moves flat out the guys inside may disembark via grav chute. To my knowledge in this edition moving flat out with a flyer and other vehicles takes place in the shooting phase or am I wrong?

This rule is out of date. Deep striking occurs in the movement phase, to deep strike via grav-chute or by skies of blood the flier only needs to have "moved 6 inches" which obviously it has to do since fliers may only ever move a minimum of 18".

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

Thanks for clarifying. That's how I've been playing it and it hardly ever fails me1
