Thinking of getting back into Fantasy, this is an army I've designed with the models I already have. Do you think it will be effective? And more importantly will it be fun to use?

LORDS

1 x Lord of Change
- Dark Magister
- Master of Sorcery

CORE

20 x Horrors of Tzeentch
- Champion
- Standard Bearer
- Musician

20 x Horrors of Tzeentch
- Champion
- Standard Bearer
- Musician

SPECIAL

10 x Screamers of Tzeentch

10 x Screamers of Tzeentch

4 x Flamers of Tzeentch

ARMY TOTAL 2000 points

Fun is subjective. I assume you have the changes for Flamers/Screamers from white dwarf. It's interesting to use mass screamers, as they are certainly a lot tougher now. They are basically flying ogres that can absolutely destroy large targets. Though they only have 2W.

I have a tough time seeing that many horrors without Heralds. A 4+ ward save is really really nice and turns them instantly into anvil units.

I want to like Lord of Change, and all the Greater Daemons for that matter, but it's hard to justify their cost. A naked LoC is almost 100% identical to a Soulgrinder. Except he's a lvl 2 caster. OH, and he costs 200 points more... That's just outrageously expensive. You could buy 2 master of sorcery TZ heralds, put them in the horror army and get a Soulgrinder for your stompiness and pay almost the same points. I just think you'll be a lot better off.

I'd kind of even say combine the horrors into one block, get a herald, maybe a changeling to be a jerk. And have it be able to spam bolt of change, as it would be the highest level caster (even higher than a Lord of Change). If it suffers a miscast, all it does is take wounds. Something to think about.

If you really really want a Greater Daemon and/or a LoC I would worry about protecting them. As they are 450-550 points and can't join units and can't get Look out Sir of any type. They are just asking to get shot by war machines or such. A LoC can get Tzeentch's Will and Daemonic Roes and be basically a really hard to kill dragon (that's also really expensive).

I like the list a lot..

I prefer a LoC with Tzeentch's Will.

Thanks for the feed back

I agree it feels too risky to include the LoC when he could just eat a cannon ball before he even gets a turn.

And unless I'm missing something (quite possible I'm not that sharp on WHFB), I cannot take Tzeentch's Will in 2000 point games because that would take him over 500 points.

So I've written up the same list with a few ammendments, please tell me what you think:

HEROES

1 x Herald of Tzeentch
- Master of Sorcery
- Spell Breaker

1 x Herald of Tzeentch
- Master of Sorcery
- Spell Breaker
- Army Battle Standard
- Great Standard of Sundering

CORE

20 x Horrors of Tzeentch
- Musician
- The Changeling
- Standard Bearer

20 x Horrors of Tzeentch
- Musician
- Irdescent Horror
- Standard Bearer
- Standard of Change

SPECIAL

10 x Screamers of Tzeentch

10 x Screamers of Tzeentch

4 x Flamers of Tzeentch
- Pyrocaster (had 10 ponts left)

ARMY TOTAL - 2000

If you want to be an extra jerk, you can get Blue Scribes. They have a new model for him and he's very TZ looking. Not only that he goes with your idea of kind of shutting down magic by taking Great Sundering standard. Because if they do manage to cast spells you get an extra die. With 2 Loremasters of only +2 spellcasting and 2 piles of horrors, you will have vastly more spells than the ability to cast them. And Blue scribes has the nice ability of casting anything from any lore (if you get lucky and roll it) as a bound scroll. So if he miscasts, nothing happens. Even though he's a lvl 0 mage, the ability to suffer no miscasts can be nice. But he's more a power dice battery.

The army list is fine, but you will find that in 8th edition Tzeentch is not nearly as powerful since having absurd amounts of casters is rarely powerful like it was in previous editions. Also remember that flamers were nerfed in the WD update 2 or 3 months ago. They are still decent but I find it best to go 2 groups of 3 or 1 group of 3. Screamers are pretty cool though. So the list isnt bad, but your core, since the way pink horrors are now, will not amount to much of anything sadly since they are poor in close combat. Blue Scribe are excellent now and considering they are very cheap point wise, its almost a requirement for a Tzeentch themed army. Good Luck with it I hope you have fun.

10k+ High Elf
6.5k Dwarf
7k Original Chaos Dwarf (not the crappy forge world)
6k Bretonnia
7k Wood Elf
6k Dark Elf
8k Tomb Kings
5k Beastmen
5k Lizardmen
7k Daemons of Chaos (roughly 2.5k all but Tzeentch, I find them useless in 8th other than flamers and heralds)
5.5k Empire
