Hello Dakka world. I picked up my DV box set a few weeks back and am looking to add on to my CSM army. I just picked up the new codex this morning and I am going to make my first army list ever. Just want to see if there is any good pointers on taking this small 400 point army and building it up to 2000PTS?

Like i said this is my first attempt at building my own army and would just like some friendly advice if possible.

I'm in the same boat as yourself.
Sadly even including the dark angels models as fallen in my chaos force still didn't bring it to over 750 points.

I was lucky enough to have been using demons before 6th and between the 2 forces I can just hit 2k points.

I'd pick up some troops first. Cultists are not so great and if your dark angels have fallen 10 marines just isn't enough at 2k

Beyond bulking up on troops pick up what you feel fits how you play.
Like being tough, look into nurgle. Pour on the dice with Khorne.

Some of the cult troops could be worth it if you intend to keep using the lord with a mark also.

There's plenty for you to consider, just go with how you like to play and what sounds good to you.

Just don't neglect your troops when making a list and have fun is all I can really say.

Sorry, ignore my points values, those figures stuck out cause that's where I "hit trouble" when I was building the list.
It's actually closer to 1200, not 750.

From what I hear Heldrake's and Forgefiends are working well for people, not just cool looking models. I guess it really depends on what you are looking for the army to do, and how much money you are looking to spend!

Thanks DonerStoom ill see what i come up with and let you know how it works out. although i don't think im going to use my angels. im going to set them aside and make another army with them for my girlfriend as soon as the new codex comes out . and i deff plan on getting heldrake's and forgefiends for this army. They look so good, and do work pretty well from what i hear.

Troops - Cheap (backbone blah blah) and can take many roles. Unless your strict on WYSIWYG. Troops can be Plague marines, TkSons etc etc.

Well really you want one of everything! But the above should get you nicely into points, to balance out the army with RL cost and size. Maybe get a chaos Battle force. Should be a nice boost.

DonerStoom, did you keep kranon in your list? I'm thinking about taking him out of the equation. I just don't know what I want to do with him :/.
