Multiple reports of a coupon code glitch at EA’s online Origin store point to an exploit which allowed customers to enter a coupon code and receive $20 off an infinite number of games. Time To End All This Doom And Gloom Over Sony And The PlayStation. The loophole was first discovered on Slickdeals and quickly spread – as news of free games often does. The code, which could be acquired by taking a short survey, is no longer valid.

Congrats to anyone with Origin who pays attention I guess XD. Many people have acquired the entire EA library of games over $20 within an hour for nothing. EA has states they will honor all the 'purchases' over the weekend (surprise).

That's a drop in the ocean to them. How many people seriously exploited it, a few thousand?

Kudos to them for honouring the purchases though.

EA has actually allowed them to keep the "purchases" even though they were not actually a proper purchase??

The Cynic in me already has an answer:

EA just wants more people to use Origin, so they purposely took a loss with the hope that more players would show up on Origin and maybe buy something by nature of proximity.

That's my conspiracy and I'm sticking to it

But I use Origin.... I say use rather loosely. I'v only bought 1 game through Origin(Mass Effect 3) because nowhere else was selling it for a decent PC price.

I only boot up Origin to play said game.

Meh. It's EA's version of Steam. I cannot recall ever using it.

To follow along with the momentum, I do not like EA as a company, so I will not be buying their products. I would very much like to play bf3, but I will not do it by EA's terms.

I really hope letting them keep the sales wasn't a ploy to attract more people. It was a one time slip that rarely ever happens. Free games last week does not make me want to spend money on games this week.

I did happen to take advantage of the EA goof up, and I don't plan on keeping origin. I only got three games (Deadspace 1 + 2 and Bulletstorm, EA caught on right after Bulletstorm and disabled the code) and none of these games require origin running to play. So I am downloading them and uninstalling origin. Why? Because free games are great, but origin is still terrible.

I'm going to be controversial and say, I don't actually mind origin...

Sure, there's annoying things about it.

EG It seems to have a pretty big footprint for what it is, with 4 gigs of ram I shouldn't need to turn off the origin client to play a 5 year old steam game.

Plus, would it kill them to give the origin prices for dlc you've already purchased?

Anyhows... I don't really mind EA having their own digital distribution store, I do mind situations where games aren't available on other ones, like steam. Though, in this case, that seemed to be more a Steam Terms of Service thing, as opposed to EAs.

WITCH!

Origin to me seems kinda like steam, but with significantly less choice, and I always got the rough idea that it just seemed, more, well, clunky and less easy to use. I can't really say exactly what it is, but I just find it a chore using it.

I'm the same as Compel, I don't mind it.

I find it to be a more basic version of Steam, but half of the Steam features I don't use. So the only features I use from both are the store and library tabs which arn't all that hard to swap between them.

Now here is something I find interesting. I actually find origin to be quicker to see DLC for a game. In steam I would need to open properties and click the DLC tab then go to the store to get said DLC. With Origin its as simple as hover over game icon click the i button then click shop for addons.
