good Zombicide review, I'm kinda bummed I didn't get in on that but I might still pick it up now the normal way. Hoping Sedition Wars is on time

I'm one of those guys who's kickstarter is running way too late :( Hopefully with Game Salute's help that won't happen next time.

Great episode as usual. If funds weren't bone dry right now I'd have totally hopped on the kickstarters for these games. Are there any plans for the D6G team to try out Fanticide and possibly do a review of the game?

Another excellent show chaps.

A few thoughts I had this episode (which probably means that it was a thought provoking episode)

I am coming round to the view that player elimination in co-op games is a good thing as it helps prevent a single player taking over-people just won't do what you tell them when their character is going to die. The same thing occurs in Death Angel.

The other two thoughts are questions about Kickstarter. Is there an emerging problem with non-delivery of Kickstarter projects? Both Craig and Drew alluded to it. Also is there a significant risk that an underwhelming Kickstarter campaign might permanently damage a gaming brand? The amount that Fantacide got funded by was pretty low compared other recent miniature games- will people use it as a stick to beat them with in the future?

I am half way through listening to this episode, and I have just finished the Fantacide interview, which is fresh in my mind. So....

I apologise for forgetting names, but one of the three interviewees was on a much more quiet line than the other two, and said a lot less, and I am not sure if he got an introduction. This all lead to me not knowing he was there until Alessio disappeared off for a biscotti before bed.

In general, the interview left me with more questions about Fantacide than I had going in, not through the D6 guys but from the way the questions were answered. I had not come across this before, and it sounds like a 'Vor in fantasy' game which gives it huge plus points already. But, while the enthusiasm of the design team was clear, it was often described in terms of things that it was not - not Tolkein, not traditional rules mechanics, not marketted like other games, etc. That's fine, but it didnt really tell me what it was.

I appreciate that it is 'narrative driven' but I need to know how it plays to get enthusiastic for it, and although the card/initiative mechanic was touched on, there were not a lot of other details thrown around. This is doubly difficult for a game just launched, where online details are simiilarly sparse. (As an aside, I am also very wary of any game which is described as 'full of humour' or something similar, as this rarely comes across well, but that may be just me.)

Still, the segment did get me Googling the game, so it must have done something right. Incidently, are Alien Dungeon aware of the film with the same name?

Regarding Kickstarter projects not delivering, I saw this article today...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-20003916 about a video game called Haunts which has seemingly ground to a halt- maybe this is a story that requires investigation...

Thanks again for the kind words, gents, and some excellent questions!

Russ is away on vacation right now, so let me see if I can't address some of these . . .

We are anticipating a review copy of Fanticide soon, and will let you guys know what we think when we've had a chance to digest.

Not sure about an emerging problem with Kickstarter non-delivery issues, but the ONE Kickstarter I did has been very frustrating, and the decisions being made by the guy, to fulfill 'small and simple' orders rather than those of us who bankrolled his success with much larger buy ins, has been annoying.

But most of my friends who jump on every Kickstarter under the sun have had nothing but great experiences, so I think it comes down, again, to the background and rep of the people behind the kickstarter, and whether or not they'll be able to deal with success. As Necros said, Game Salute is a great way to deal with this

Games getting beaten down for not providing zombicide or Reaper-bones numbers is an interesting question . . . I'm not sure there would be a stigma attached to funding at a lower level, but I'm not sure how many folks might be developing unrealistic expecations through these few wildly successful examples . . .

As for the interview audio quality, that was Drew, the PR guy and the 3rd Chair for this episode. We fixed his audio between recording this segment and recording the Lost Chapter and remaining segments, but yeah, he was very soft for that first session, and not a very loud guy to start with. He also didn't talk much in that review until the end.

That BBC article was very interesting, and I think it makes an excellent point when it says that people need to keep in mind that they lack the protection of making an actual purchase online, and that should a project collapse, there's not much that can be done.

Another good reason to take the reputation and past-performance of a project's members . . .

Thanks again, guys!

In that case I completely got the wrong end of the stick while listening! Please ignore me and carry on...

Hi, I'm about 1/3 of the way through this episode and so far, I'm really enjoying it. I love when you guys have game designers, creators, etc on the podcast to talk about .not only their games, but also how they designed them. I would love it if you could have more of these interviews. I know you've interviewed various people about how to make miniatures and the process in going from metal minis to plastic/resin, about how they came up with the rules systems used, but I'd love if you could get some more of the creative-side people on the show. An interview with someone who designs the miniatures and what goes into the creative process would be very interesting. The same thing would be very interesting for boardgames; the process by which the game was created. What came first, the mechanics or the theme or a combination? How did they refine the rules? How was the art created. Stuff like that.

Concerning Infinity, I'm like Russ in that I've only recently gotten interested in it. I would love for a more in-depth review or discussion on it. The rules for Infinity are actually available for free online (minus the fluff) either at their official website here: http://www.infinitythegame.com/infinity/en/downloads/ or the Unofficial Infinity re-edit which combines all the latest changes to the rules and is rewritten in a more cohesive way, here: http://wargamingtrader.com/files/downloads/Unofficial%20Infinity%20re-edit%20with%20bookmarks%20v2.2b.pdf. If anyone is interested in Infinity, I would recommend checking those out.

Also, I'm going to have to side with Russ when it comes to the new Revolution TV show. I really wanted to like it, but it's just horrible. Overlooking the availability of muskets, the general cleanliness of the characters and the almost new condition of their clothes, as well as why steam-power or windmills seemingly don't work at all, the premise of a world where we suddenly lose power sounded great and I was looking forward to some post-apocalyptic survival type show. Imagine my disappointment when the show turns into another wanna-be Lost or Jericho rip-off (including obligatory and gratuitous flashback scenes) with some mysterious reason why we suddenly lost power.

Not only that, but the show suffers from "moron-teenager" syndrome that a lot of shows seems to suffer from (Jericho, Terra Nova, etc). It's like the creators decided that they needed to appeal more to the teenage CW demographic so they included the most annoying and idiotic teenage characters they could find. The main character and her brother are the worst. From the very first minutes of the show, the brother/sister pair are doing one stupid thing after another. I couldn't get past episode 3 or 4, but let's recount some of the stupidity of the two teen characters:

1. Caused the death of their father by pointing a crossbow at a group of men with guns

2. Instead of killing a bounty hunter who is trying to capture you, you decide to leave him chained up in an old train car (where he might starve to death - a fate much worse than a quick death by a sword)... only to have that same bounty hunter being rescued by his posse and come after you again and end up killing him eventually anyway.

3. Capture a militia soldier following you, leaving him tied up to possible starve (the main girl has a problem with killing people with swords but seems to have no moral qualms at all about death by starvation or hungry animals), without interrogating him... only a couple episodes later, when that same militia soldier manages to escape and track you down, forcing you to recapture him, and only THEN do you decide to keep him around to get information out of him.

4. A tornado or twister is coming, so one of the teens magically learns how to pick the lock of the handcuffs holding him, and in a fit of sheer brilliance decides that he'll leave the safety of the barn where he's being held, goes out into the storm where he probably would be killed, only to IMMEDIATELY be recaptured.

Not to mention that the show's cast is like a hodge-podge attempt at appealing to the teen girl demographic:
1. Heroine from Hunger Games... check
2. Broody militia solider who will no doubt rediscover his good side and be a romantic interest later who bares a striking resemblance to the wolf guy from Twilight... check
3. Shaggy haired blonde surfer boy who broods and scowls in every scene he's in... check.

I wanted to like Revolution, I really did, but it's just BAD. Besides the general inconsistencies of the show's universe which I can grit my teeth and try to overlook, the main stars are not only horrible actors but make one bad decision after another just for the sake of plot advancement and drama.

Another fine episode for the tubes.

Fantacide looks interesting. I'll have to give it more of a look when they get more out.

With Kickstarter, I've seen more successes than failures as far as delivery goes. I'm not an avid funder, but I know folk on both sides; the funders and the funded. One of them Kickstarted his new album (He even offered it on vinyl, so I can say that.) From his standpoint, he's also having to deliver on things at the response times of others. Some of the liners didn't get printed properly, so he's having to get them redone so they can merit the support that he got for doing this project. Hopefully, all other delayed Kickstarters fall more into this line than the line that was linked to previously in this thread.

Zombicide sounds incredible. One day, I'll get my hands on it. Hopefully, I'll be able to get one of my friends to just accept the abstractions.

I haven't read "Killing Lincoln". I'm not the biggest fan of O'Reilly. I might give it a look, though. Another book that deals with Lincoln's assassination, as well as a couple of others is "Assassination Vacation" by Sarah Vowell. She does the audio version, which means that if you're fine with the voice of Violet from "The Incredibles"; you'll be fine with her reading.

I wanted to like Revolution.. well, I take that back.. it's OK, but it's nowhere near the top of my list for all of the reasons above. My GF and I have been watching it, she seems to hate it more than me. I think the only reason we're still watching it is because she like Juliette from lost. She couldn't save V though, so I'm guessing this one is going down the tubes too. Getting kinda tired of all the "let's have a mystery just because we can" shows.

Hmmm...How long until you reveal the Kickstarter you are working on Master-Terraformer?

Without being negative, I have to say Fantacide MUST have been disappointing for the group of Who's Whos that created it. Saying that you're happy that it didn't make big bucks just seems a little far fetched. Who starts a project and hopes to only make a moderate amount of money on it? After buying the minis from Eureka, then paying shipping, printing the books, there can't have been much left to split 4 (or more) ways. Like I say, not trying to be negative, but this just surprised me.

Not gonna lie, I'm pretty excited to hear that Russ is getting into Infinity. I think if you guys can play through it a bit, you'll find it's got a lot of depth and balance. Plus, with a new scenario book dropping in the next few weeks, there's going to be a lot of renewed interest and more ways to play. And Craig, there's a ton of terrain building opportunities. Necromunda isn't even a sufficient comparison. It's dense out there on those tables.

Great episode! I'm aghast at the things I was getting wrong while demo-ing Zombicide. Thanks for clearing those rules up!
