So we have an escalation coming up, you have to use the same list each time only changing when it increases (monthly) so I need an awesome all round list. Here was one I was playing with:
Opponents include Necrons, Chaos, Guard, several marines and loads others so no point trying to create a list based on that

Heamy 50
3 Wracks 30

5 Wyches, Hek w/ Ag 75
Venom, SC 65

10 Warriors 90
Raider, NS 65

Ravager, NS 115

Total 500

Then I thought what if I go crazy and coven up... boards will obviously be 4x4 so mobility is a limited factor anyway... What would you say to a list like this?

Heamy 50
5 Wracks, LG 60

5 Wracks, LG 60

10 Wracks, 2xLG 120

Talos, CF 110

Cronos SV 100

Total 500

The only problem is that terrain can sometimes be hard to come by in the store so there isn't masses of cover.
Pretty interesting?

First list.

I don't think it's a good idea to leave your VP warlord out in the open with 3 wracks, they're T4 with a 5+ save essentially, with any S8 shots denying that crucial FNP save. 5 Wyches without a haemy to give them FNP, no PGL to get that stealth(6+ is better than none), you're probably gonna see very limited use out of that unit. I'd consider making them HWG unit instead, as your list is gonna suffer if your opponents bring some heavy AV unit(I've seen 500pt necron list that can fit 2x Anni barges in, for example).

Using the 1st list as base, I might do something like: Haemy + 3 wracks on a venom, 5 HWG wyches on a venom, ravager, and a razorwing jetfighter. The ground troops may have to do hide and seek on the 1st turn or 2(depending on your dice roll), which, with the help of the new nightfighting rules, might make it possible.

Second list.

Certainly an interesting idea, but my question is again, what do you do if you run into a mech list? Or even, try fielding your 1st list against the 2nd, what will be your plan? Your wracks won't even be able to harm our own AV10 vehicles, let alone the tanks IG and others can bring. And as you've noticed, covers will be really important for the 2nd list, which, your FLGS doesn't have a lot of... I think it could work if you have enough cover, those MCs are big fire magnets, you want to give them covers in case any low AP weapons go through.

If there is enough cover, I'd definitely give the 2nd list a go though...

How about changing the large wrack unit to a min grot squad? then I have a range of different str CC attacks, also I can choose where to put the chronos based on who will benefit from the pain tokens. Also without working out the actuall maths the heamy seems safer with 3 grots than 10 wracks. So the list would be
Haemy, Scissorhand + 3 bare grots

5 wracks w/ LG x2

Chronos, SV

Talos, CF

Tbh this is looking like too much fun to miss haha!

The only units who's survivability i'm sure is not great is the wracks, but who's shooting at them with every other threat charging straight at them!

The grotes are certainly gonna be lasting a bit longer than the 10 wracks, they'd have roughly the same amount of wound, but at T5, meaning you take 16% less damage, and much harder to ID, but the problem remains that since, as you said, your FLGS/gaming group doesn't have a lot of terrains, it may be tricky to move them up the board, especially since you only really have cronos for some mediocre ranged support until you get close. Put it this way, I don't think any necrons would see their lychguards as invincible, they're all T5 just like the grots, and they got a better save than us and the RP special rules. So if you're gonna run with this list, you really need to make full use of covers, especially with IG who probably wouldn't even move closer.

It'll certainly be fun, but very difficult.

Slightly off topic: But I heard that 10 grotes are nigh impossible to kill, something to consider when you get to that point cap...

I spoke to the manager today, and he is getting loads more terrain done

So that's that problem solved!

Am I wrong in thinking most of those units pack quite a hefty punch?

The only thing is ranged anti-tank, for flyers.

And off topic reply, they'd better be amazing for 350 points basic!!!

You could put in a 6 man squad of reavers with HL's to help with the AT

Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.

They would definitely hurt, providing you can get close enough. Flaming tadpole's suggestion is worth considering, you might have to dump your haemy with your wracks, but having some more ranged AT options won't hurt either. Remember, wracks can be fielded as little as 3(add in a hexrifle acothyst and do character sniping even), if you feel like you could use the points better elsewhere.

If you're confident that you'll get enough terrains to make it across the board, then give it a go, if not, stick with the traditional transports list of DE.

If you can get a game in before the campaign, may be even try this list there beforehand?

Hmmm that is something to think about...

I will definitely get in a tryout game, I will try the all coven list first and if it doesn't perform I'll change out the grotesques for reavers and see. thanks for the advice!
