as the topic says I was taking a look at the Hell Blade and got to thinking there wasn't all that much difference between the Hell Blade and the Heldrake with the exception of Aesthetics of course

I really dislike (hate is a strong word) the look of the Heldrake as I feel it's a little too stubby...maybe if they had elongated the model a bit or made it look like the picture in the codex where it's burning through the valkyrie it might look a tad more presentable...it would be workable with some conversions but when looking at the Hell blade I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to buy one..and it wouldnt' be THAT much more to purchase one off of Forge World

however I digress...does anyone else feel the same way that it would be a perfect substitute? they both use Autocannons and it would just take a quick conversion if I wanted to use a bale flamer, I have a hard time understand why they would put in the drake to begin with while the blade sits on the sidelines

Since the Heldrake is meant to be a daemonised Hellblade, yeah.

hmm I guess you're right with the forward sweeping wings of both the drake and blade I can see how it could mutate into the drake

I think that's what I'll do then!

thanks!

That sentence made the Hell Drake acceptable to me and I now like it. Thanks.

Basically hellblade -->hell drake same as dreadnaught --> hellbrute. Too much time in the warp, or not enough depending on what model you have.
Was able to make my buddy like it with this comparrison.

Not really. Helbrutes are now the default entry for Dreadnoughts. A Helbrute might not be as mutated, like the old dreadnought models. But it's now still a Helbrute.

A Heldrake is a completely separate thing from the Hell Blade. Concept-wise, they were going for a daemonised Hell Blade when designing the Heldrake. That doesn't mean they're the same thing, like they did for Helbrutes.

Basically - all Dreadnoughts are now Helbrutes. Hell Blades and Heldrakes are still separate units.

If you want to use a Hellblade, why not just use a Hellblade? Why counts-as it for a Helldrake?

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

Because people aren't as accepting of Forge World?

I say fine. It's a deamonically possessed Helblade

this is exactly what i did. I just ordered and used a Ball Preadtor flamestorm turret. it slots in nicely between the autocannons. If you can be bothered it would also be simple to magnetise the weapons as well. I couldn't be bothered - just make sure i say at the start of the game "the plane has a Baleflamer"

Those people are not worth playing against. Anyone stupid enough to refuse to play against FW is probably going to be a pain to play against anyway.

Just use the Hellblade rules, I say.

I am using the Hellblade as a Heldrake because i dont have the latest FW book (and can't afford to buy it) - therefore i do not know the official rules for the Helblade.

I've seen the free update PDF so i can probably guess. but the fact remains that i dont like the Heldrake model - just personal opinion.

Plus i bought a hellblade years ago and never get to use it so thsi saves me having to buy a: a FW book, and b: a £45 model which i dont especially like the look of.

Correct me if I'm wrong too, but you can't use Forgeworld rules in tournaments right?..but you can use Forgeworld models and count as and Hellblades are close facsimiles
so that's why you might use a Hellblade as a Heldrake and not just use it as .....er..itself

I wouldn't have a problem with someone using a hellblade as a counts as drake. There are a lot of complaints about the model, but it is clear they were going for a chaotic pterasaur look so it doesn't really bug me that much. I bought one and will add it to my slaaneshi army. I also have a hellblade in my khorne army as well.

If anyone gives you grief for using the hellblade model with the heldrake rules, just smack 'em.
