Hello there
For a long while ive been looking at Warmachine, learning the rules and the tactics, but never actually playing it. Now that my friends wanna get into it ive decided to do an army, specifically Retribution. Now, while I have nothing against the sculpting style of PP, I simply hate, HATE metal models. Seeing as Retribution have practically nothing but metals, ive been looking into doing conversions using other sources. Ive primarily looked at Games Workshop sets since I come from a 40K background. So far ive found the High Elf White Lions box to be a good fit for House Guard units, with just a little greenstuffing. Mage Hunters should be easy enough to do with some Dark Elf + Wood Elf bits...Where im running into real trouble is the Dawnguard units. So far I simply havnt been able to find anything that reasonably easily converts into a similar look.
So my question to you is, do you know of any models in plastic that would do the job with some conversion work? Feel free to mention options for other units in the army book if some spring to mind.
Thanks

40K eldar gaurdians and dire avengers could be workable. I actually started looking at WM when I was still playing 40K because I was considering some of the ret models as replacements for some of my eldar models.

Not that this post is getting much traction, but thought id stop by and say ive found a good fit for Dawnguard sentinels. Dark eldar Incubi...lower legs match, has a long crotch guard, weapon looks about right. A head swap and some green stuff work for the upper legs and shoulders and im golden.

The conversions would work.
Just dont plan on using them in most tourneys.. at least from what ive seen.
Youll also get some opponets that would rather not play against it.

Privateer press has a very specific conversion policy due to the game mechanics and how weapons / abilities are involved. If you go that drastic, most events will ask you not to play. A significant number of 1 off opponents who play at steam rollers, would likely pass on a game also and likely reference WMHD's conversion policy.
Don't get me wrong, I can see why you want to do conversion, and see your putting thought into it. But in the competitive realms in PP that's not enough unfortunately.

The key with PP's conversion policy is that they need to be UNMISTAKABLE at first glance.
White Lions are a poor choice for houseguard units because their weapon type is wrong. Because their weapons are neither Retribution-esque shooty bits, nor are they halberds, they could really be anything... and that's the kind of ambiguity the conversion rules are designed to avoid. If you used White Lions as all your houseguard and swapped out all their weapons for the model appropriate weapons from the PP Bits store, I think you'd find most players to be more accepting of your concept.

Wouldn't fly at most bigger tournies, but I think smaller LGS level tournies they would be fine, especially if you play there alot anyways.
I don't know of any players in my area that would outright refuse to play you in fun games. Some would probably prefer you to have the actual models, but most would think it is creative.

Oh ill only be using the legs and torso, adding weapons. Im thinking Tau pulse rifles with some green stuff work for riflemen. Not sure what to do for the halberds. In either case ill green stuff the legs to be plates instead of scales, and add the double pointed cloth on the back.
About all the Tournament grumbling going on, my local grp and country in general isnt big or "mainstream" enough for that to be an issue. I doubt we even have anything official from PP happening here, except maybe in the capitol.

Oh hey. I didn't look at your flag at first.
I think your plan of conversion is OK as long as your future plans don't involve something like converted Houseguard Riflemen AND converted Dawnguard Invictors on the same bodies.
Good luck with your conversions. Look forward to seeing them on the board.

ill be using Incubi for Invictors since they are basically ranged Sentinels anyway.
Oh and ill see if I can remember to post some pics.

Basically you shove a model in a TO's face and ask "What is it?"
If they hesitate, it's a no-go.
