I'm starting to collect the imperial guard and trying to figure out how to go about it. I have been reading a lot and some times kasrkin squads are considered veterans and sometimes they are considered storm troopers. If someone could clarify it for me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Fairly sure they are considered Storm Troopers. Even under the old rules they were STs rather than Grenadiers, as their unusually high level of training and equipment elevated them above other planets' elite ground forces. One of the few Imperial Guard formations in the galaxy that can keep up with the Munitorum's own Storm Trooper regiment and the ISTs.

IIRC The term Kasrkin first came up during the original 13th black crusade campaign in the supplement book for that. Rules wise they were the the Cadian equivilent of storm troopers (to all intents and purposes ruleswise they worked the same, just had imo better models) I think fluffwise the only real difference is that storm troopers are trained at the schola progenium where as Kasrkin are exclusively from Cadia.

Yup.

It's really the fact that they have hellguns that gives them away as stormtroopers. Of course, if my opponent showed up with kasrkin models to represent vets with the grenadiers doctrine, I think that would be a cool way of doing it.
