Hi guys, so I'm currently running an army at 750 points which is basically a TDA RP, and 3 units of GH. For my next purchase I want to get something a little special, but not sure whether to buy some WG Termies to make a unit with my RP, or to buy some TWC as a fast option to help support a drop pod GH squad.

Before anyone suggests getting Long Fangs, please dont. I know they are great, but I dont want to use them in this army, at least not yet anyhow.

I would say TWC, they are just so good at what they do.

Then my children, I shall listen for your call in whatever realm of death holds me, and come I shall, no matter what the laws of life and death forbid. At the end I will be there. For the final battle. For the Wolftime."Leman Russ

Well if you get TWC get 2 boxes, so you can run 5, otherwise the tend to get hit very hard with just 3 guys.
Another option might be the Wolf Guard termies, fun to use, and can be great center peicces for the army, physically and asthetic wise too.

My purpose in life is to ruin yours.

Yeah was thinking of running 5 naked TWC, but not sure my gaming budget will stretch to 2 boxes this month. I think that might have made my decision, keep it cheap this month and get the Termies, then next month I can buy me some wolves.

I would also say TWC, they are great and good looking models. They also give space wolves something completely unique compared to other marines (I hate fielding different painted ultra marines).
for the cost, this is a problem. Nowdays I make all my purchases on wayland games website, it takes a little longer time than buying in store but with the extreme prices our stores (in sweden at least) take as a +mark-up on GWs allready high prices i just cant buy stuff from them anymore.

Also I would highly recommend not to go all naked on your TWC. they need something to be good, I dont know whats the best setup i do ok with 2 storm shield + storm shield-PF and 2 naked in a 5-man squad. I have modeled all my models with neodymium-magnets in their arm sockets and magnets under their shoulder-pads to make it easy to swap weaponry. this is becuase I sometimes like to field lone TWC in the role of lone wolves or if I want to squeeze some extra plasma or something. It was a hell of a job and I cant say Im totally happy with my own work but it still feels worth it rather than buying more TWC models when you find yourself in need of more different weapons

they are expensive if you equip them with SS as they still can get killed by mass small arms fire. Sure they last longer against missiles, but then missiles just target something else. If naked, they still get 8 T5 wounds for 200 points which when compared to a kitted out GH squad at 10 T4 wounds is not far off. Giving them SS, and the cost goes up to 320 points from 200, and they still only have a 3+ save vs bolter fire. So for me, I like the idea of having them cheap, naked, and more of them than kitting them out with SS. A unit of 5 naked is similar price as a GH unit with transport... given the choice between 5 naked TWC and 3 TWC with SS, I choose the 5.

Ok I can buy that viewpoint. Although I like to send my TWC in to kill what the grey hunters dont want to face. I cant afford both TWC and terminators so TWC needs to be what kills the bad boys for my opponent, and lacking invul saves when charging any opponents elites really gets you whiped quickly.

Thats a good point. I'm purely theoryhammering here as I've not played with them yet. I wouldnt want to throw in some GH against termies, and it would be the same with naked TWC, they just wouldnt last long enough. However although they have rending, I dont see how they would be that effective against termies 2+ save even if equipped with SS. 15 attacks on the charge, hit with 8, thats 1 rend 2 if you are lucky, with 5 TWC thats 25 attacks, 12 hits 2 rends. I guess I'll stick with Jaws and rapid fire plasma for taking out 2+ save models

I've not seen TWC used to good effect this edition...yet. Don't lose hope for them though, they have the potential to slap people about. I love the models and I would like to find a way to fit them in. They can't really support a drop pod assault because they're just too slow.
I have smashed up terminators with them before, but it's not common. The fact they can't be doubled out by the P-fists is great, and hitting with rends really hurts those terminators. It's just risky.

My idea would maybe be a cheap, 3 man unit to act as a counter assault unit for my Long Fangs. This just seems like 150 points which could just be spent on grey hunters for similar effect and to sit on an objective. So I guess I talked myself out of that.

With your next purchase: I'd get a drop pod and some more grey hunters. Not exciting, but a great tactical choice.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

i used to run 2 TWC in 5th, both with wolf claws and one with ss.

i never used them to directly charge, they would stay behind the rhinos then join any combat that happened, not getting shot.

it worked. I don't know how people are expecting to use them in 6th i intend to use them the same way, i dont think theryre tanks they cant soak up beats so have them charge from behinde this worked for me.

so i think if you avoid the direct charge they'll work well.
