So As an ork player I am struggling between choosing to have some tau allies which i think would ultimately be a cheaper choice for me or IG allies. I'll admit IG is more my tactical and cold calculations style of gameplay. I was wanting enough to play in our leagues at my FLS which runs from 400 pts to 1000 pts of IG so namely I am looking for competitive builds that could run against this for the least amount of money burn in my pocket. Could I get some suggestions and pros and cons? It would be majorly helpful

if its 1000p of allies, take definately cover and vehicles with Veterans or Penal Legion. The Penals I just admire as you get a perk for each squad and the Veterans you can upgrade to make them killier and more stubborn. I have had success with both so far, but by far my favourite miniature in my small detachment of IG are the Lord Commissars (Old Cosx CSM The Commissar killed a Raptor Commander with no wounds) though have them all with carapace armour and plasma or Grenade Launchers. That's just what I found easy when playing against Infantry (vehicles were annoying, but with plasma it makes it a bit easier).

It really depends on what your Orks are doing. If they're Horde Orks, build a gunline and throw your greenies out in front while the Guardsmen plink away at vehicles and Heavy Weapon units. If they're Speed Freakz or Trukk Boyz, build a Vet/Mech compliment. If your Orks are shooty, well, maybe use an obnoxious Vendetta (or as I'd like to say, Cruddace Copter) or Valkyrie as strafing flyers.

If you want a infantry gunline there's a couple tidbits that might help:

- Out of the HQ's, the Company Command Squad is your best bet, but don't heavily kit them out; maybe a Standard, Heavy Weapon, and maybe Camo Cloaks if you have the points. Since their Orders rely on Line of Sight to the target, they usually get singled out by more experienced players.

- Infantry Platoons are cheap, and can crew Heavy and Special Weapons at a modest price. Some people will debate on whether to blob squads together with a Commissar or keep them seperate. My recommendation is to blob one platoon to sit on an objective in your deployment zone and break the other one up, but keep in mind the smaller units will die/run faster if the enemy focuses on them. Unfortunately, Heavy Weapon Squads are Buyer-Beware type of unit. Yes, they can take three Auto-Cannons, but they're extremely fragile.

- Avoid the Elites Section all together. Suicide Storm Trooper Squads are decent, but the crap tonnage of models/weapons you're going to have between Orks and Guard, the points can be best spent somewhere else.

- Fast Attack has the obvious Vendetta. Though I lothe the undercosted, overpowered, overdesired, glorified thing, it does have three twin-linked Las Cannons and it flies. If it doesn't tickle your fancy either, Scout Sentinels are cheap walkers with cheaper Auto-Cannons, and they can outflank.

- Heavy Support has lots of toys. If you're running foot Orks, grab a Manticore (and if you have points) a Colussus+Griffon Battery. They can sit in the back and shell Heavy Vehicles, Light Vehicles, Transports, and other artillery pieces with impunity.

Thanks for the replies so far you guys, You've given me some food for thought but I will go ahead and clarify a few things

Basically I am going for a secondary army when i said i am taking guard allies basically I want the ability to be flexible with my allies not a single niche so i know that is best accomplished by having options but i always want them capable of being able to ran by just themselves as well. I hope that clears things up a bit

I was thinking company command HQ and Infantry platoon would be a minimum requirement IMHO

Platoons are not cheap. For a platoon with no upgrades you're talking about almost double the cost of a vet squad with no upgrades. If you're taking guard allies for the fast attack section (read vendettas) and the heavy support section, then a vet squad would be more cost efficient as your single troops choice. If you're looking for bodies, scoring units or a gunline, then a platoon is probably a better option than a vet squad. Most people don't take guard for their infantry in my experience.
Although vets with sniper x3, AC and forward sentries can sit on a home objective for a decent amount of time.

Similarly, a primaris psyker would then be a better choice for the HQ since the lack of infantry hurts the effectiveness of orders. Unless of course you want the spam the special weapons options in the CCS, but this drastically increases their points. Once you start going down this road you might end up doing what I do an end up with more points spent on the allies that it'd be better to take them as a primary detachment. Unless you're more sensible than me.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...
