Looking for some possible tweaks or improvements, not necessarily a change your whole list solution. I have not played for about 2 1/2 years and am getting back in the fight. I play to have fun, but winning every now and then is nice also.

I really like mortars and griffons even though they don't seem to be real popular. I also like Storm troopers (even though I left them off this time).

everyone seems to say that Sentinels are pants now a days... I can't say I disagree. Seems most people look to valks and vendettas as the "fast attack portion" of a guard army.

Good luck,

Biggest thing I see is with the infintry heavy army your going to want a company standard in your CCS, it will very quickly pay for it self in units saved from morale. I love the mortar teams a personal preference even if they don't kill points they will stress your opponent out for the few points they cost.

The Heavy flamers in the Infintry squads I'm not a very big fan of as for the point cost they don't seem to bring much more killing to the table over a regular flamer. I'd save the points and put them else where. like upgrading your Grenade launcher to something more useful.

If you want to use the Sentinels thats fine but I would swap their role with some of your infintry. they are too easy to kill carrying that dangerous/expensive of a gun. instead I would move those Lascannons to the H-bolter infintry squads and arm the sentinels with either Multilasers or Plasma cannons. depending on points or what you need in the army.

Thanks for the tips, The HF was an oops, it was supposed to be just a flamer in the IS's. Thanks for catching that.

The 2 chimeras might as well be no chimeras and around 4 dead guardsmen. It's how they'll look by the end of turn 2. I'd say if you want chimeras, go all out. It'll synergise well with the hellhounds.

Your anti-tank is heavily lacking. Foot slogging melta won't make it to a tank before it turns tail and runs.

Platoon 2 seems like it'd be more effective as veterans. You've got a lot of special weapons all hitting on 4+ for 230pts before the upgrades, this could buy two squads of plasma vets (230) or 2 of melta (200) or a mix (215). This is including the cost of the weapons. They're more accurate as well as being more cost effective.

I also don't understand why you have 2 heavy support squads. One of the LRBTs or griffons could be on its own, shooting at a separate target.

I agree with this statement, but i'll take it 1 further. a 5 point flamer is the best charge defense an IS can take. Considering they're going to die, having D3 auto hits on overwatch is a great spite move.

Again, thanks for the help. I'll break up the Leman Russ's. I'm not really sure why I put them in a single squadron.

As far as the second platoon advice, I like it also. I tend to stay away from the vet squads, only because everyone else uses them, but I think I will break down and use a couple. Any suggestions on how to differentiate them from the regular troops? Everything is painted, so a different paint scheme won't be feasible. I'll look at modifying the list when I get home and have the codex.

I may look at modifying the sentinels, I built them several years ago as a counter to CSM land raiders. At least 2/3 of the players at the shop I gamed at used CSM and always had at least 1 squad of CC terminators in a land raider trying to get to my lines. Six fast moving lascannons worked as well as anything else at chewing them up a bit. I actually have 6 of them built and painted that way. Of course back then they were just sentinels with an enclosed crew compartment and extra armor with a lascannon. I also have a large number of HWT's with lascannons, but I wanted to branch out a bit.

Thanks again.

personally, i'd love to see sentinels become useful. I love the idea of them... Maybe if you can get them to outflank effectively in large numbers they would be great at being a thorn in the side to gun lines... just not sure what they do any better than flyers.

Good luck and let us know how/if the sentinels work out.

Generally people know the models are vets when they have 3 plasma guns or melta guns and hit on 3+ so I wouldn't bother differentiating them unless you want to make/paint some new models.
Mine often have back-packs or no helmet. Simple things like that help them stand out.
