As the title states that I am trying to start a Skirmish League. While I do not like the 8th edition of WHFB, waiting for GW to come to their senses and come out with a new edition. I still want to use the minitures I have. Plus the FLGS is trying to move some stock so we decided to start a WHFB Skirmish League in the hope that it will bring some WHFB players in, get another weekly game started and help move a bit of inventory.
I played Skirmish and loved it to the point that I did a battle report on here a several years ago. However, I have heard that over the pesky interwebs that Skirmish and Mordheim are pretty much the same game. Looking at the base rules it is but there seems to be a set war gear in Mordheim and Skirmish uses the army books.
So which do you guys prefer? Also, other than the PDFs for Skirmish (which were a pain in the butt to find) is there any other resources out there that I can bring in such as rosters, counters, etc?

I just don't get you 8th haters, it's an army game for crying out loud how is the move to big blocks of toys a bad thing? It's more balanced, you can play an army multiple ways with multiple builds. If you want a WHFB skirmish game play Mordhiem, if you want another option go with Lord of the Rings, if you don't care if it is GW go with warmahordes. If you want a 7th clone because there is only 1-3 strategies and builds for each army that gets old and boring due to the lack of variety go with warmahordes.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

We already do WM/Hordes but we are trying to draw people back to WHFB and get new people playing without spending large amounts of money. The more people that play and enjoy the more likely that they will want to move into the full WHFB game. I believe that WHFB Skirmish will appeal to more players since it will allow them to use their army book and not just the Mordhiem weapons and armor. Why the basic rules are the same Skirmish seems to be a good entry point the main system.
Personally, I do not like 8th edition and was getting tired of it in 7th but I am still holding out hope. As I said before this is more for the FLGS to get WHFBs out there among the players to have fun outside of 40k and WM/Hordes also possibly generate some more revenue.

I got ya. There is probably some unsupported fan based rules you can find a .pdf for, you may get a reply here to a nice rule set but if you want to be more pro active I would look here:

you could run the LOTRs skirmish rules with fantasy figs. They are relatively straight forward and make for an easy going quick game.
