When a hacker attempts to hack a HI, the rules state that the hacker will roll his WIP mod by the BTS of the target. I am unclear on this rule, due to the fact that some HIs have plus or negative BTS mods.

So for example a hacker with a WIP of 13 attempts to hack a HI with a BTS of -6 (Shang Ji Invinc) does the hacker convert this -6 to a positive to create a WIP roll of 19(13WIP Mod BTS -6 coverted to +6)

I understand when to use the BTS (when rolling for the effect of some sort of e/m ammo that ignores ARM).
I just don't understand how it effects the hacking attempt.

I hope I was clear for this post.

Thanks

Treat it as you would any other negative modifier to a roll. A WIP 13 hacker would therefore need a 7 to hack a BTS -6 Shang Ji.

(Obviously, the intent isn't that -9 BTS TAGs are autohackable!)

That's what I thought. But giving the hacker a -6 to the WIP roll, would not that penalize the hacker.

Due to the fact that the Shang Ji Invinc has a -6 to the BTS roll which illustrates the vulnerablity of the HI armor, would not the hacker have a better chance to succeed in the attempt.

thanks for the reply

Shang-ji are NOT particularly vulnerable to hacking, is the point.

BTS is ONLY used as a positive modifier for BTS saves (against E/M, viral and certain other weapons). For hacking purposes it is ALWAYS used as a negative to the attacking hacker's Wip.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

No, that's represented by them being power armoured, and thus being hackable. A regular light infantry (or Ariadnan heavy infantry) is immune not because he has 0 BTS, but because his armour isn't powered.

A -6 BTS represents that the troop is actually quite resistant to hacking, more so anyway than the -3 that most power armour troops get.
