I was thinking of building this army as it would be a nice cheap entry to CSM.
How effective is it?
Can I play semi-comp with it?
I was thinking something to the effect of

Abbadon
Chosen in Rhino - Plasma
Chosen in Rhino - Plasma
Chosen in Rhino - Melta
Terms.

I know that this is overly simplistic. I'm very new to the army. I'm really looking to avoid spending a ton, and REALLY don't have any interest in the new mech units.

Thanks all.

Not the best of ideas. With no heavy support you are cruisin for a bruisin. Abby looks tempting, sure, but the chosen don't really do much. Yeah they can all take different kit, but you are going to need a core of shooting and maybe a couple of cc dudes. You'd be better off running cult troops and an appropriate hq (Ahriman + Thousand Sons, Lucius + Noise Marines, etc) and going from there. I am a dedicated Nurgle player, but at the end of 5th ed that's all I had. Noise Marines are most definitely where it's at in 6th ed. And if color is your concern they don't have to be bright pink, but they should be . A cult troop list at the end of the day will be cheaper on the wallet than that chosen list. I mean yeah you can turn the chosen into a Swiss Army knife (of chaos) to sink points, but you most likely won't be winning any games with them.
I don't have any interest in the new mech units either, which is a shame as that's where most of the new model development went. Obliterators are still awesome, however, and a box of termies and a little green stuff will make you five of those bad boys. You can fill your heavy slots with nine of them and be competitive without running mech.
Also Daemon Princes are a point sink, but can get all over the field in short order (if winged) and terrorize the enemy whilst your troops advance and your oblits, uh, obliterate. You can construct lords and sorcerers from the ground up to be as nasty as you please.
Whatever you do on your vehicles take dirge casters. They are invaluable.
I hope this stuff helps.

I already play a list that is usually outnumbered by other power-armored armies. Lowering the body count even more is not something we should do

However.. If you wanted to grab lots of Terminators, Chosen with Plasma in Rhinos, and cultists for the objectives, it could work.. but I would opt for more bodies.

10 scoring Marines with 2x plasma are just fine.

I understand the money thing. Your original idea would work against some opponents and be hammered by others, yay paper rock scissors.. I say proxy it before you purchase.

Thanks! As I said, CSM are a brand new concept for me and I'm having trouble figuring out how to break in to them without dropping a TON of cash while still avoiding all the new lame looking gobot/megazord mech models.

I'd hold that until you try it a few games and realize how fragile non-loyalist 5man squads really are

CSM 10k points
IG 3k points
Orks 2k points
WoC 3.5k points
VC 2.5k points
