Okay so as the title asks.
Do I just suck at 40k or are the necrons just too cheesy?
I don't think I do because any time I go up against non-necrons I do okay ( about 50/50tbh) but any time I go up against one of two necrons players I get wiped.
I mean like everytime I'm merely aiming to wipe out 1/3 of his pts compared to all of mine. That shouldn't be your goal!!!

Maybe my lists suck but I do try and vary them up.
I have three armies.
New CSM, Orks and Tau. All pretty standard lists on them all.

Here is the list from the last game we played where I managed to wipe 210pts to his 1000pts of mine.

So verdict. Do I suck, my list suck or am I just falling pray to Matt Ward Cheese?

Do you have any long range high s firepower? It looks like all you've got is bolters and mitts.

Sadly not atm for my CSM.
But for my Tau I have railguns 3 broadsides and 2 hammerheads.
My general tatic for dealing with the DD ark with CSM is either raptors (melta bomb and krak grenade it to death) or Deamon prince it with his high S low AP and 24" Glide.Either way the earliest I can take it out without rolling a 3 on the warlord trait table is turn 2.

How were the Black Mace and Murder Sword working out for you? IMO, it would be better to drop the mace from your DP since it has a low AP. Everything that guy hits in the Necron player's list is getting an armor save (except the CS technically) . Without a special weapon, I think that it would be AP 2 as per how MCs work, but I'm not 100% on that. Otherwise it makes him that much cheaper, and it looks like your DP is pretty point-heavy.

The murder sword is fabby. While I tend not to get it into combat with it's target the extra attacks and AP work wonders and the target can be kept away from you tatically.
The black mace is a 50/50 and it's only real use is the extra attack you garner from it. The Daemon Prince is quite point heavy. But the pysker lvls are worth it. 75pts and spend 2 of them in biomancy. Gives you a 1 in 3 chance (and let's face it this dex is a lot about the gamble) of getting Iron Arm making your DP pretty impressive, murder machine and even if you don't you might get Warp speed and so on.

If anything I'd say you simply need more long range dakka. Crons make a fierce gunline, and standard tacs with some raptors wouldn't even scare my massed guardsmen.

Need moar dakka. Perhaps some obliterators? Termies?

If it's just this particular player beating you consistently he may simply be a better player. His list really isn't anything special. If it was cron air then you may have some justification for 'cheese' but his current list is by no means cheesy.

Are you properly using cover and spacing your troops out to maximum coherency to neutralize the doomsday ark?

He only has 10 models for troop choices, how is he winning objective based missions (5/6 missions)? Seriously, 10 meq models are not in anyway hard to kill.

The c'tan is a threat in combat and you have no shooting to kill it so simply avoid it, it's slow moving.

Your dp is way too expensive for a 1000 point game. I'd make him cheaper and drop the plasma pistol on the lord and use the saved points to buy rhinos for your squads. That way you can reach him faster and your infantry is protected from his shooting. He won't be able to run away given his list is entirely foot based.

Some bikes would give you further mobility and be able to quickly engage him. A bike squad could get to those immortals very quickly and eat them alive.

Yeah he's not by any means a bad player but when he plays his other armies he goes to about a 50/50 win rate same as me.
The c'tan is by far one of the most annoying things ever! that stupid thunderbolt and gaze of death :/
Yeah I've got a large order coming in to try and give my lists some more flexibility, so here is hoping.

To me CSM strength lies in their template/blast weapons. You can wipe whole units off the board in one volley.

Foot crons hate plasma cannons. That burning brand would do a number on them too.

3x2 obliterators

Lord with brand maybe on a bike with biker squad with melta

Put double plasma on your troops, they can easily shoot the c'tan to death with the plasma shots and a couple lucky bolter shots.

Really for the price you pay for all those CSM you could probably do close to 4x MSU of plague marines with double specials and get a lot more fire power out of them.

That's a pretty weak Necron list. All you need is a few S8+ shots to destroy the Doomsday Arm / kill the C'tan and he's done for.

Squads of 5 Immortals are nothing to worry about, you will easily kill those in a single round of shooting.

You have no long range shooting and don't have much in the means of getting your dudes to the fight. 5 Raptors are easy to pick off, and if nothing else is as fast (barring the Daemon Prince) they're going to get shot to pieces. You need Rhinos, Havocs, Defilers, Predators, Land Raiders, Bikes, or anything you can think of to get you to the Necron line faster, or punch holes in it at a distance. Necrons fold in close combat, so if you can get close you've got them.

I know how it feels to get shot-up by Necrons since it happens to me all the time so to deal with the outdated metal :

1 Nemsor: DP or lord get into combat with him, you will deal damage he wont be able to handle.

2x5 Immortals: Can be shot up but assuming their always in cover send plasma waepons up against him... they wont last that long

10 Deathmarks: pie plates are your friend here also a warpsmith will be many times useful here as he has the shatter defences rule assuming they are always in cover, and will help your pie plates as well.

1 C'tan: here I have not seen much action against him I would say either pop a few lascannons against it if he gets annoying or if he get to bee too much of a thorn in your side get your DP or lord into him will lots of killy cc wargear.

Doomsday ark: plasma, lascannons Str 8+ weapons are always a nice addition to blow up these.

Aside from that get things into transports for mobility, that always helps.

All major help. For those that are interested my order includes more raptors, 2 rhino's , 2 squads of CSM, termies, a heldrake and a forge/maulerfiend (think of going the forge route)

If anything I think the heldrake will help you out. Swoop in, template away, swoop out, rinse and repeat.

Also the termies should help you out as I mentioned earlier, as will the forgefiend. From what I hear people are saying the maulerfiend is a bit worse then the shootier route, but take that with a grain of salt.

hopefully they should be here by Wednesday/Thursday latest shall perhaps roxy in some stuff in the meantime

All the other Advice is pretty sound in this thread, so far. I just want to point out that the Black Mace counts as AP2 when used by a DP.

He's agreed to face me tomorrow with me playing as his necrons vs any one of my armies. #this should be entertaining hahaha

5 Raptors (Champ w/Melta bomb) A few bikers here could accompany the lord

If it is of interest too anyone our match of me playing his necrons and him playing an army of mine of his choice (he went for CSM) ended up with me wiping the board with him. Rematch is tomorrow hahaha
