I make extensive use of thinned down (1:1) Ogryn Flesh wash. My supply is just about exhausted though and as Reikland Fleshshade is its replacement I tried that. In terms of tone it works well enough however it doesn't thin down well at all. It dries unevenly and leaves areas of light pigment; I had no difficulties of this type with Orgyn Flesh.

I generally use 2 drops of water to 2 drops of shade. Any suggestions on how to get around this, or suggestions for a suitable alternative?

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

The new shades are not actually washes. They're ink suspended in some sort of medium, I assume acrylic but not sure. You need to thin the medium.

A possible solution would be to mix the shade with a similar color glaze.

Another option would be to check out a paint seller like Valejo or PP to see if they have something similary to the old GW wash.

The problem is you are mixing the shades with water. As a result the shade sits on the water rather than actually mix with it and that is what is causing uneven drying. Try mixing with a paint thinner or alcohol.

Isn't that what the old washes were (nearly all commercially available washes, actually)? Ink in water/acrylic medium with a bit of surfactant? If the medium is acrylic, water should thin it just fine (up to a point well beyond 1:1, at least).

Spotty and/or chalky finishes to diluted paints/washes are frequently the result of the medium being stretched too far, causing pigment to clump (same thing can happen with the old paints/washes, but usually takes a lot more thinning to become an issue), in which case adding more usually does the trick. Have any acrylic medium, OP (I imagine a pot of the new Lahmian Medium would do the trick, if you're buying GW, exclusively)? It almost sounds like they dropped the ratio in the new line (as a greedy cost-cutting measure, some might say )...
