Ive been working on my Ultramarines army for ages, slowly painting them up. I paint so slowly that as my painting skill develops and gets better I find that some models I painted in the beginning look like crap compared to my latest models. I want to repaint my AOBR termies which have been primed, 1 coat of mordian blue and 1 coat of asurman blue wash. Each coat is relavively thin. Am I able to simply paint straight over the current colour or should I strip them? I want to avoid stripping them because I cbf buying more primer and rebasing them and I think the paint already on them is thin enough to do so.

Any suggestions on my course of action?

You can paint over the old paint just fine. I wouldn't make a habit out of it for a few reasons though.
1. Even if you're using reasonably thin coats, after the second time around the model will likely show some buildup. If I were to paint something a third time I'd definitely strip it.
2. If you keep repainting your old stuff, you'll never get around to painting new stuff!

Ill try one model and see how it looks. Back in those days I was so anal about how thin my coats were so it hopefully wont look gluggy. The finall result may look a bit darker than my current scheme because of the darker "under coat" but it wont be too bad.

I'm the same way- really slow painter, and my skills are so much better now. I just leave the old units though and keep going w/ unpainted stuff. Eventually, a new codex/rules come out that will make you shuffle your units build. Then you can tweek stuff. You NEVER finish an army.

Its also fun to me, to leave those models just to see how far Ive come as a painter. I look at something I painted a long time ago and think, "Man, I thought that was so good back then" and laugh. Kinda like playing 40k with a time capsule.

Just think its quite interesting to see in your models how much more developed of a painter you've become... i mean my army still has models in it i painted when i was 13!
