A while back I bought 4 of Vallejo's Liquid metal paints(Copper, Silver, Gold and Rich Gold).

I've finally cracked them out and started experimenting with them. The finish that they can achieve is amazing.

But I have a few questions:

1. Can they be thinned with mineral spirits or only IPA?

2. Can they be airbrushed? Will the alcohol damage my brush?

3. Is there any way to salvage them if they are starting to solidify in the pot? My Rich Gold has a thick paste at the bottom that refuses to break up, and as a result it won't mix smooth like the others.

"Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! ... It’s become the promotions department of a toy company." -- Rick Priestly

I haven't used these in a while but my experience was - ONLY IPA. Even the Vallejo folks will tell you that btw.

I use IPA to clean my airbrush all the time, and I used it with Vallejo Liquid Golds and it was always fine. The Ammonia based "thinners" people use, like Windex are the bad ones.

As to salvage... I'm gonna say no, but I'm probably wrong. I had to throw away 2 bottles because I couldn't find a solution. Someone smarter than me might have a better answer though.

I've had similar problems with clumping on the bottom and I just crushed the big clump with the handle of any old paint brush and mixed in a little more alcohol. Seemed to work okay, but YMMV.
