Okay, So I'm going to be getting a new Dreadnought Model, and I'd like to magnetize it so I can swap out weapons, Now I won't have the model until Friday at the earliest, and I want to put the order for magnets in before that. So the question becomes. What size should I order?

I like to say I have two armies: Necrons, and Imperium.....

I use 3mm - but also glue a steel washer around the arm mounting pin.
Two 3mm magnets in the arms are enough to hold them in place and prevent droop from weight (even on the old metal arms) using this method.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

1/4'' is HUGE! I would not suggest that. I don't have a dreadnaught but I would say 1/8'' is probably your best bet. I use 1/8'' inch and 1/16'' for my Tau battlesuits. If you order from ebay the magnets are pretty cheap. You may want to get two sizes and have left overs for other magnetizing projects. Also there are times when the area you want to magnatize is large enough to fit a big strong magnet but the weapon is too small for a big one so you can mix sizes which helps a lot.

Personally, I prefer 3/8" magnets. They fit the arm joints very well.

For the arms I found that they fit snugly enough that I don't use magnets to keep them on. I did add some small ones to swap out storm bolters and flamers though.

If you order from the right place you can get different shaped magnets. I used rectangular ones on the weapons on a War Walker. Nice thing is, because it's rectangular it will not turn. It will always stay strait.

why on earth would you need mags for the arms?
the pegs are good enough...
what you could do, though, is as mentioned earlier use mags to mount the storm bolter/heavy flamers

I use 3mm (1/8" ish) and 6mm (1/4" ish) for literally Everything!, up to now I've not really needed any others.
