My friend plays orks, and I play blood angels. We were playing a 5th ed. Game of capture the objective earlier this evening. Well he says that he gets his 6+ save even though bolter is ap4. He says ap only applies to vehicles. I only have 6th ed rulenook and he has the 5th. So I'm mot sure how to rule this help?

He is incorrect in both editions. Weapon AP negates armor saves. His T-Shirts are worthless. And a normal bolter is not AP4.

Firstly AP mostly applies to non-vehicle models.
Look at page 16 and 17. Your friend is talking out of his ass, in 2nd through 6th ed he is wrong.

Secondly, bolters are not AP 4. He may get a cover save for some reason but there is no armour save for orks against bolters.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

AP stands for Armor Penetration.

Vehicles and models both have armor.

His happens to be made of beer cans, which unfortunately, doesn't stop much in the way of projectiles in the 41st millennium.

Ork players (myself included) have to accept that piles of bodies are to be expected.

The AP value of a weapon indicates what level of armor save the weapon ignores. Anything equal to, or worse, then the listed value is ignored.

So AP6 only ignores 6+ armor.

AP5 ignores 5+ and 6+ armor. and so on.

In addition, AP2 and AP1 both have additional effects against vehicles. AP2 gains +1 on the vehicle damage chart. AP1 gains +2.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.
