I am Looking for help with the direction of my army. I have most of the Tau and am looking to expand with allies to make it up to 2000 pts. The list I am thinking of is:

Updated List
Spoiler:

Tau - [1204/2000]
HQ
Commander Shas'O - [145]
  • Airbursting Fragmentation

  • Cyclic Ion

  • Shield Generator

  • hw-Multi Tracker

  • Stimulant Injector

Troops
x3 Fire Warrior Team - [80] (individual) / [240] (total)
  • x8 Fire Warrior Shas'la with Pulse Rifle

Fast Attack
Pathfinder Team - [211]
  • x5 Pathfinder Shas'la with Markerlight

  • x3 Pathfinder Shas'la with Rail Rifle

  • Devilfish

  • .....Disruption Pods

I have the Pathfinders because Markerlights are good. I added the 3 Rail Rifles due to personal preferance as I like them.

Heavy Support
Sniper Drone Team - [240]
  • x3 Sniper Drone Team

I chose Sniper Teams, as with the Pathfinders, because I like them. They seem fun to use, and that is what I am after.

XV88 Broadside Battlesuit Team - [233]
  • Broadside Shas'ui

  • .....tl-Plasma rifle

  • .....Blacksun

  • Broadside Shas'ui

  • .....Target lock

  • Broadside Shas'ui

  • .....Target lock

I have upgraded one to have Plasmas, because I did so on the physical model (before I made him into a Broadside) and he looks incredible with them.

Hammerhead Gunship - [135]
  • Ion cannon

  • 2 burst cannons

  • Blacksun

  • Disruption pod

  • Multi-tracker

I chose the Hammerhead over more Broadside, because 1. I have a Hammerhead. and 2. More Broadsides feels a little too repetative to me.
I went with the Ion Cannon since, in my experience, the railgun missed a fair amount of time (and I've had bad luck with scatter dice).

Imperial Guard - [750 / 2000]
I include allies since, to me, adding more Tau feels rather repetative (also I like variety).

HQ
Company Command Squad - [180]
  • Company Commander

  • .....x2 Plasma Pistol

  • Officer of the Fleet

  • x4 Plasmagun

  • Camo Cloaks

Seems better than what I had. Not sure whether I should use Camo Cloaks, Carapace Armour, Both, or Neither.

Troops
Veteran Squad - [210]
  • Gunnery Sergeant Harker

  • Forward Sentries

  • Autocannon

  • x3 Plasma Gun

My tactics for the Vets is to camp near or on an objective (in cover if posible).

Heavy Support
Leman Russ Squadron - [360]
  • Leman Russ Executioner

  • Leman Russ Exterminator

  • .....Heavy Bolter Sponsons

I am very open to change this choice. Not sure what my army is lacking for this size army.

Total [1954/2000]

I have yet to purchase any Guard and would like some help making a better list.
I only play casual games and i don't mind losing too often if that helps...

dont purcahse guard yet

your commander is an infantry killer... and thats it

firewarroirs are fire warroirs always give them their pulse rifiles

pathfinders....are meh just use them for marker light spam only

devilfish ... TANK SHOCK!!

why sniper drones?

hammer head is good

NOT ENOUGH RAIL GUNS!!! you upgraded the brodsides a liiiitle too much just leave them as they are and spam more rail guns

the ccs squad is only to give orders, just upgrade them to survive

instead of vets go for the infantry platoon spam you will have so many guardsmin its hysterical

dont get the leman russes there is something far better, vendeta's with 3 twinlinked las cannons you will pop tanks like no tomarow

especialy with all the railguns you will be a tank killer

Wrong. Four BS:4 special weapons, with 2 BS:4 plasma pistols can rain down 10 plasma shots in 12". CCSs can be equiped to destroy TEQ and MCs. In a list taking 2 troop choices orders aren't quite as important.

To what end? Vets are more specialised self contained platoons. They get the same number of special weapons for cheaper but with less bodies. They're more accurate and can be used for whatever you want. In my opinion ditch the heavy weapons team on the vets and make them more mobile.

Why would Tau of all need lascannons when they can get rail guns? It's weak redundancy. Tau need the AV:14 and blast markers. The LRBT is equipped poorly since if you fire the main cannon it can only snap-shot the rest, of which the sponsons are blast markers so can't be fired. If you want AP:2 death, take an Executioner. They're amazing, if not, a little short ranged. It can be made up for by rolling forwards with the Exterminator as side armour cover.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...
