I thought they already made Shadowsea? Like ... before Kickstarter was invented ...
Automatically Appended Next Post: Ah yes:
We are proposing to update the old ShadowSea rules with the new features from DeepWars, adding new artwork and game mechanics so that they can be played together.
I pledged for Deep Wars and received the book and some of the minis last month/this month. They are ... okay, I guess.

Still, I like the look of a lot of their miniatures, though I've no idea how their game plays.
They have a gameplay video
Going by the video, it looks fairly lengthy and overtly detailed on the movement/activation, followed by fairly minimal rolls for the actual fight. Anyhow, take a look yourself.
I really like the look of their Dark Mariner stuff. But they just set the initial goal too high!
A lot of Kickstarters seem to fall into that trap... particularly of having stretch goals spaced too far apart. A lower initial goal, followed by easily attained stretch goals, can gain a lot more momentum.
Of course, if they really could Not produce it without 30K, that's one thing... but they could have left some things out of their initial offering, and made them stretch goals, with an initial goal of 10-20K.
but I presume their higher target and further apart stretch goals were a response to the actual cost of their first KS
(especially as they would have been able to reduce the distance between stretches to 'boost' the campaign as many others had done if they had been able to)

I wonder if they could have "backed themselves" for 3K, or if that's considered unethical. The backers successfully pushed for 27K at the creator's prompting, but obviously that wasn't enough.
There sure are fans of this game out there. If this were my KS, I'd probably have thrown in the remaining 2.500,- . They'll likely not get their fans to dig again as deep into their pockets outside of the Kickstarter.
I wonder if this won't be a sign of things to come, with overexcited companies overrating their Kickstarters with giant dollar signs in their eyes, only to fall short. The sheer amount of other crowd funding drives recently has to have an effect, too, people are throwing away money hand over fist and that can't continue perpetually.

Was in the Deep Wars Kickstarter. Waiting on my book and miniatures to arrive, but it's taking it's time getting to Australia.
Hoping they also go for a smaller amount next time. They are talking about a mini-kickstarter, but the goals are $2000 apart for each different type of miniature, so I don't think it will reach the $30+k they want. Need to do it a little better I think. I want all of their Fortune Hunters, but I don't know if the next kickstarter will allow it.
Will also be able to buy Deepwars and regular miniatures through the KS they have planned, so whether this helps them out I don't know.

I doubt it. The majority of Kickstarters/Indiegogo-projects have always been failing. Kickstarter claims to have a success rate of 43%. Indiegogo says they have around 1/3 of their projects succeed.
If anything, I kinda feel that miniature/tabletop-gaming kickstarters are still outperforming the "norm" (though that is just a gut-feeling. No numbers I can put to that).

This KS has a goal of just 2K (ie making a single mini), all the rest are gravy so I'm sure it will work (quite a lot of folk missed the shadow sea KS, so wouldn't mind picking up the minis from it). I'd say even as a short project 10K + is probably on (tho I agree they won't get 30K)
And a 2K stretch for a single mini is actually on the very low end of what KS seem to ask for, it's usually closer to 5K
I hope it all goes through then. I thought to myself "would be funny if I look down at my gate and see my miniatures had arrived". Went downstairs for something else, and sure enough, they were there!
The sculpts of the Fortune Hunters are just awesome. Exactly what I wanted, so it's brilliant to see them come together so well.
I want the rest of the Fortune Hunters line, a Manta vehicle, and a Reconnaissance Scout. If this is the quality they are keeping across the entire range, it will be very hard not to pick them up as soon as possible.
Actually that was two kickstarters too quickly after each other. Also you should have an eye on other kickstarters. There is no sense in putting a kickstarter on after several huge projects get funded. The people well be out of money and need some time to recover.
This project at least got some decent presentation, but many others are only a basic idea.
I was in for the Deepwars kickstarter and got two of the starter boxes. My trouble with these new ones is that I only got my Deepwars stuff last week. I haven't had time to assemble, play, and see if I want to put in more money. They sent out a few updates mentioning their new kickstarter and how they were disappointed that more backers from Deepwars hadn't jumped on ShadowSea. I get that they're aiming for the Christmas/holiday crowd with this Guardians of the Abyss one (which I'm glad to see is funded), but for me it's too soon.
I am in for the new Deepwars one. Want as much of the Fortune Hunters as I can get, they are so damn excellent. I am hoping this one reaches higher amounts when the other Fortune Hunters are available. Or at least the Reconnaissance Scout.
So here's to them reaching higher stretch goals!

I was in the exact same boat - I got my starter sets for Deepwars last week - still waiting on the rulebook as it was mailed out separately. I really love the look of the world and the miniatures - just dripping with theme. Was heartbreaking to see Shadowsea run into a perfect storm of problems:
- Too soon after Deepwars (most backers only got their stuff in the final week of the KS)
- Too close to holidays and following a lot of big money-draining miniatures kickstarters
- High initial funding goal
I'm really glad to see the Deepwars mini-kicker expansion doing well - it really felt like it happened *just* before everyone started paying attention to kickstarter and should have done way better than it did. Maybe they needed an undersea zombie faction...
