Hi,

I've been thinking of buying a brood of malanthropes (3) to use in my tyranid army, the model is just pure epicness.
My problem is though, they seem quite plain, simple, rule wise. Was forgeworld out of ideas? There's like one special thing about them and it's "prey adapation"

They have no ranged attacks so act as a deathstar HQ unit, which I like but, would need supporting units.

I'm having some second thoughts of actually buying them just because of the fact that they seem "unfun" to play with due to being quite a "standard" unit as HQ choice.

Does anyone have experience with malanthropes? Has anyone been able to actually utilize their single special ability to turn the game around?
Have the biomancy powers on tervigons/tyrants buffed a malanthrope list ? (endurance, etc)

Thoughts please, and here's a screenie of the rules

also, talking lists under 2k (around 1000 - 1850)

thanks

Also, I'm not sure if i'm still looking at the right rules, can anyone clarify where the latest forgeworld rulings can be found?
thanks

I'd ask myself if the enormous expense in £/$/E is worth it!

The "Prey Adaption" ability is next to worthless. The Malanthrope is not a melee badass and yet it has to destroy a unit in assault to trigger. Charging into MEQ's it's 2 hits, 1 wound, so one model down. Yay?

Yeah.. Why aren't they psykers though? They seem better psykers than zoanthropes but got full vanilla melee rulings..?
